Akieryon spent centuries imprisoned in darkness. Later Jynn says something about not wanting to keep him in the dark (figuratively) about something that Tempest is avoiding telling him, and it makes Akieryon cry.

So many choices.
Rollan loses himself and what started him down this path to begin with. It takes seeing another city struggling and realizing that he is waiting to be saved to reignite his ambition.
It is a major part of his character development.
Hello, #SeptemberWorldbuilders! I'm taking some time off from the internet, so I may not see your responses. Talk to others make some friends while I'm away! This week's theme is LIGHT AND DARKNESS. Today's Q: Tell me about a time your character was "in the dark" either literally or figuratively
Pearl diving is so central to selkie culture it might actually be the reason they became shapeshifters in the first place. Their sealskins allow them to dive much deeper for much longer and in colder conditions than human divers.

A lot of fish in fresh waters and rivers is heavily regulated and a lot of restrictions on how much can be fished in a season. Druidic fish farms are central to this industry (1/2)
They generally are the same as in the 1400s.

Theryl's sailors are not unlike our own. Some set sail to fish, others carry goods or passengers across large bodies of water, and of course, some serve in their country's navy. That said, naval warfare in Theryl is rather rare.
Sea-workers are superstitious as HECK, for good reason, and most of them will have at least a basic working relationship with the local deity. Divers are rare, as they need extra protections, but it can be VERY lucrative.
There's plenty of sailors and fishermen in Nixtral! Heck, some of my prominent characters come from fishing villages or are sailors. As you can guess, most are just trying to catch fish for their livelihood. Some, though, are in search of adventure!

In Otherworld, there is an ethnic group called the Halizones-- a seafaring people of sailors, mariners, fishers, dockers, fishwives, divers, etc. They revere water spirits & oceanic deities 🧵1/?

As a child under 6, Loke spent time on the coast, though she didn't play out there much. As an adult, she rarely made it back but likes watching the waves. During her
#TheDragonblood: Seafaring isn't a huge thing in Nemoria, since there are other, often more practical, modes of locomotion, but that's not to say it doesn't happen. There are also airships.
There are other cultures that do more seafaring.
#TheDragonblood: Felix lives in England, so visiting the ocean is not a hardship. I've considered they might be from Colchester, which is pretty much on the coast.
Aimetor is from Nemoros, which is further inland, but I imagine they've seen the ocean at some point.
Like most nautical things, you'll find a lot of sailors and water mages working around East. Mainly, they're needed to help maintain East Library's archive fleet and get most of the Library's maritime shipping/trade done, but there are also plenty of researchers!

Since AElit is on Earth, fishermen there are similar to anywhere else in the real world. They don't venture out very far, though. AElit has no naval presence, no thoughts of exploring.

21: In Karnassia (co-created with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social), sailors and fishermen play critical roles in the most of the seafaring cultures (Hroth, Cyra, and Atmoriel especially, but also in Freeport and parts of the Vizrani Empire). Across cultures, sailors and...
On Maris, most families have either a Navy sailor or a fisherman.
Fishing vessels are restricted to certain grounds so as not to rile up the squild. (Though some try their luck) They use bright green flags on their vessels.

Some are tradesmen or transporters, but magic refrigeration means even those aren’t super necessary.

The vast majority of sailors in the Alliance are Rivermen or Lake Sailors. A couple of the Lakes are big enough to be equivalent to the Great Lakes in our world, so this is slightly more impressive than it sounds…
In terms of ocean sailors, they’re almost all fishermen.
