8. CASTLES IN THE SKY ... COCAINE AND BOOZE Page 123 So the Vietnam-era or Sixties Generation began being denigrated in the press with the accusation, “The ‘Me’ Generation,” and Sixties values were also denigrated — the scapegoating of the Sixties Generation continuing — despite the fact that it was a different age group in society, the younger Yuppies, who were actually the ones triggering the attack. Opposing Worlds The hypocrisy of the charge of the Sixties Generation being Yuppies becomes even more blatant when considering their values. Sixties values included such selfless acts as risking, sometimes incurring, violence and personal harm, jail time, and a lower standard of living for the sake of their idealistic beliefs in peace, environmental restoration and preservation, and selfless communitarian living, among others. None of that has any overlap with Yuppie careerism, consumerism, materialism, or their individualistic greedy selfishness. But then truth was not their forte, the WWII and Fifties Generations. Later these same elderly generational types would tell us that an election in 2020 was stolen, and they would dare to say that some imaginary Antifa were who stormed the Capitol during the insurrection of January 6th, 2021. Daunting, these lies are, as they are indiscriminately piled, one upon the other down through the decades.

Illustration of Kaelyn, a young woman with black wolf ears and long wet black hair, sitting on a concrete ledge beside rain-slick train tracks at night. She wears black utility clothing, holds a glowing phone, and looks off to the side. Text on the image: "Nobody in the group chat changed their mind. They just stopped saying it. “Haha. Suure, ok. You crack me up, ya old fart. Gonna be a real gas. Ya can bet your damn asscrack that you’d lost me for sure until you’d made real quick to explain that one, heh heh.” So, I say, “Yep, that’s a little mind-game prank that was played on me. Well, anyway, uh ... . Well, uh, I just want you to allow yourself to open your mind to the greater intentions — intentions you have for doing this, the greater visions. Now, don’t think just yet, you’ll only try to make things up. This is easier than that.” “Ok.” “Ok, now. You say that ... being honest and only rational after all ... that of course you wouldn’t be doing this expression of yourself on the internet if you didn’t have some desire to share or show this part of you with somebody or somebodies in the world ... right? So far?” “Yeah, get on with it, I’ve already said that.” MICHAEL ADZEMA Page 40

Lake began his investigation of re-experience in 1954. Like Stanislav Grof, he did this using LSD, initially, in the psycholytic therapy that was being developed at that time to facilitate therapeutic abreaction. Later he, again like Grof, developed a nondrug modality to accomplish the same thing. His method of “primal therapy” employed a type of fast breathing — again, like Grof’s later technique — to access theta-wave brain levels, which are levels of consciousness that he saw as crucial to accessing and integrating these memories. His thirty-year research led him to the realization of the importance of ever earlier experience. Thus his earlier stress on the importance of birth gave way to his later emphasis on the first trimester in 1981 (Tight Corners in Pastoral Counselling) and in 1982 (The First Trimester). He stressed the maternal-fetal distress syndrome, beginning at around implantation, as a major time of trauma. He also described a blastocystic stage of relative bliss just prior to that. His one other major disagreement with Grof was his belief that the mythological and symbolical elements described by Grof were a product of LSD and that the first trimester events were the actual… PRE/PERINATAL PSYCHOLOGY AND PHENOMENON OF RE-EXPERIENCE Page 23

EXPERIENCE IS DIVINITY Page 38 We will see shortly that means that the way we come into the world — our conception, womb life, and birth — create the foundations upon which all our other perceptions are built, and these being unique to humans mean that humans will be the only species seeing the world exactly the way we do. Further, while focusing on our biology as a basis for understanding what is fundamental about humanness, we are able to compare cultures in relation to that biology, though not in any other way. What we will see this means is that while we cannot compare cultures for the most part — this is called cultural relativity — we can compare them in terms of certain things all cultures share which have to do with the fact that all humans have the same kind of body and biological history: An example of that would be the way cultures deal with birth, specifically the pain of it.

He becomes engaged in a desperate need to get out. Interestingly, the fan — the source of comfort in the rhino (womb) — stops working after a while. This is exactly analogous to the way, when we are fetuses, the nurturing elements of the mother’s womb “turn off,” in the last stage of gestation, making the womb quite an uncomfortable place indeed. We see him pushing his face against the elastic, membrane surface of the rhino’s posterior in a way graphically suggesting perinatal emergence. The tourists watching this explicitly state that they see it as the rhino giving birth. We witness the actual “birth”: Jim Carrey (Ace Ventura) struggles to make the opening larger and to come out. Finally, he falls, naked wet and curled up fetal- or baby-like, to the ground. The… APOCALYPSE – NO! Page 29

On the other hand, solar theologies divide the world in two — into darkness and light, which are irreconcilable. The world is comprised of the sacred and the profane. Indeed, earthly existence is not just deluded, it is seen as corrupt and foul, even at times evil, in its nature. The only real good or light is separate from it, transcendent, is a heaven with no elements of the veil of darkness that is existence on Earth. Solar theologies therefore seek to repress all darkness within, and they struggle to eliminate and destroy all the darkness and discomforts of life without ... to bring their deluded idea of heaven to earth. They try to live in a world without darkness or shadows, one only of light ... thus a solar one, a daytime one. Their milky white heavens are without contrast ... and boring. Their earths are despised and polluted, tortured and raped to extract their resources, with as little importance to them as a garbage dump, for “in the sweet bye and bye” the Earth will be tossed aside as easily as a Dixie cup after one has drunk up. …configuration has women at the center, dispensing care and nourishment, and men on the peripheries, doing whatever they can find to do when they are absolutely not needed for reproduction, defense, or nonessentials and luxuries like meat and “entertainment” — that is to say, ritual, religion, and performance. Division of Labor Thus secondary altriciality can be seen to be responsible, as well, for the division of labor we notice in all societies between men and women, with it being extremely pronounced in some cultures and in others not as much, though it exists. The increased dependence of the infant on its mother after birth contributed to a division of labor with women needing protection during their times of increased vulnerability and incapacitation and time being taken up in the care of the very young. It contributed to gender roles, therefore. Family Units Beyond that, these tendencies, rooted in that dependency of infants, pushed for the creation of family units. Remember, families are not a big deal to our primate relatives. In chimps they do not exist at all. PRODIGAL HUMAN Page 26

PROLOGUE: KEYNOTE OF THE GREAT REVEAL Page 9 Would You Remember Your Lobotomy? (If a Tree Falls in a Forest.... ) Yet here, only twenty years later, I see this seasoned elderly guy ... obviously he’d seen more than I could ever have of the workings of Wall Street ... yet he had not had a clue that this downturn could happen, nor apparently, had anyone, any trader, or any CNBC talking head, seen a thing. Where were they 20 years ago? I wondered. Still, lowly me — is it because I’m a Democrat? — lowly me, well did I remember the way Reagan’s “Robin-Hood-in-reverse” economics created a great recession, which brought Bill Clinton to power incidentally, but also how everyone was alarmed at the size of the National Debt, which, during Reagan and Bush The Elder, had more than tripled. If They Took Away Your Memory, How Would You Know? It wasn’t just me that saw this crash coming. For I found mentors in the market, who I picked because they also knew we were headed for…

No, I mean to go much farther and deeper than that. I am saying that our conception, gestation, and birth — in general, our earliest experiences as a biological organism — can be seen to form our underlying myths ... but much more than that. They also create the very foundational templates upon which we build our view of reality — physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and philosophical. They are the roots of our archetypes and all our mythology. Another way of saying this is that our archetypes and mythologies symbolically express the early biohistorical events of our lives, especially those occurring at concep- tion, during our womb life, and at our births. Vanity of Rational Supremacy How is this idea — that we have biological parameters of structure, process, and events experienced (one’s personal history) — different from what you already know and why is it important or helpful to know it this way? Well, we, with our species arrogance, believe we have a mind, intellect, ability to reason… 4. THE PRIMAL MATRIX OF MIND Page 45

1. CREATING WORLDS Page 9 …assume that we are “God’s chosen species,” the summit of creation, and magically endowed with a one-in-nine-million — that is to say, one out of the approximate number of other known species, excluding bacteria — uniquely correct number of sensations and perfect accuracy of perception. We have no way of knowing even whether or not we are in the same “space” at the same “time” ... the quotation marks because space and time are sensorally determined in our species’ unique biological way ... as other unperceivable beings, even sentient ones — though with what senses, again, we do not know. There Are an Infinite Number of Worlds It should be supremely clear by now, especially among those of us with a transcultural or anthropological familiarity — wherein we are made distinctly aware of the truth-shrouding nature of ethnocentrism — that any serious attempt at discerning truth is not compatible with any variety of self-serving or egocentric agenda, regardless how invisible it might be to us or how unconscious it might be held. And anthropocentrism — the idea that our species, alone, has the inside track, superior to all creation, on perceiving Reality — is such a self- aggrandizing notion.

DANCE OF THE SEVEN VEILS II Page xxx …saying that they would not occur except for the birth traumas, and to that they do not agree. The Mythological-Archetypal Veil I have a different take on it, however. I do not dispute that some of their view is true. I really do not know the ontological status of these birth-like mythological and archetypal symbols. Nonetheless, I view the actual events of one’s life as having strong determination on the way one views and interprets everything that comes after them. That would include these transpersonal and archetypal realities as being at least shaped, if not caused, by our early experiences. My difference lies in two things: One, that these events shape or they configure our religious and spiritual understandings, especially our re- ligious ones, is what I elaborate upon, especially in this book and the three following it. However, I do not know the extent to which these events create or originate these transpersonal realities. Yet, in view of the findings brought out in my works, Planetmates (2014) and Prodigal Human (2016) — which detail the way humans evolved (devolved) the peculiar kind of birth we suffer from, which is radically distinct from all of Nature — it is curious to think what it might mean for these events, specifically resonating with our unique birth experiences, to have an existence independent of humans.

It is also a way humans in the modern era are different from prototypical humans, from primal humans. Let me explain. Let us go back, now, millions of years, to our most ancient of parents. Beginning at the beginning, let us make our way through the descents of “man,”4 which deposit us where we are today.

However, scientists and the educated public are not supposed to be like that. It is our job to be looking squarely into the face of these forces of denial and potential apocalypse and to be seeking to understand the human condition and human psychology in light of them. It is our duty then to inform the rest of us about what we see so that we might have a chance of reversing our self-destructive tendencies. Whether the educated public and the multitude of scholars actually are fulfilling their mission in these times is debatable. Regardless, my thesis is that when we do this, when we look foursquare into the face of the global crisis and its accompanying denial, we find that these unprecedented global factors contribute to a unique and unprec- edented human condition and psychology. I have seen a bumper sticker proclaiming, “If you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention!” It could as easily say, however, “If you’re not alarmed,” fearful, anxious, depressed ... you name it, “You’re not paying attention!” I. 7. VIETNAM/BOOMER GENERATION — MARIJUANA AND PSYCHEDELICS Page 98 “Generation X would swallow whatever untruths they had been fed. For they had been led, by the WWII-Gen media, to scapegoat the Sixties Generation for any problems they saw around them. This use of fake news and misrepresentation beginning in the 1970s and 1980s to deflect attention away from the actual filthy-rich perpetrators is important. This tactic of the wealthy elite targeting a scapegoat to create a Culture War, which would keep their larceny in the shadows, is indeed the premise of this book. “I need to make clear just how long has been going on this ploy of the wealthy using Culture War to hide their secretive and ongoing Class War. It makes it easier to see why it is so pervasive today, as we observe in the media’s use of Lefties as target practice for the irritations of grumbly MAGAts.”
