Where is that? #ParkChat

That's another site that I can't visit without spontaneous tears. Such a powerful memorial. #ParkChat

A3: Here is a unique place for reflection in a National Park. To sit inside a place of worship and gaze out at the wilderness and think about how untamed it was, the tension between the two spaces, is worth pondering. #ParkChat

A woman near us stood at one spot seeming to look at one name for a long time. As she left she told her friend

"I wasn't ready for that"

....who can't be there and entrust me to honor their family members. #ParkChat

Brian LaRose entrusts the laying of the wreath for his grandparents with me and PatMe laying a wreath. I take this honor very seriously. Speak their name. Honor them. They die a second death when their name is no longer spoken.

A3 #ParkChat That's a tough question. When I ugly-cry about something, I don't like to be in public, and some of these places will actually incite that level of emotion in me. Doing the wreath laying at Arlington, I can hold it in for the most part, but it's powerful emotion laying wreaths...

Ron doesn't have family around here. He was our friend, so Pat and I make sure he is honored appropriately.

A1: I've been on top of the heads at Mount Rushmore NMEM. They took us up there one time when I worked there during college. #ParkChat

View from the top of Mount Rushmore, looking down at the faces.

A3 If there is a cemetery associated with a memorial site, we always take the time to wander the rows. We actually have visited sites just to go to certain graves. Ex. Custer at West Point. #ParkChat

A3: Often, that place has been right by a Park Ranger, giving a more detailed description of the place. Sand Creek Massacre comes to mind for me. #ParkChat

Q4. Think of our more scenic National Parks. Describe any site(s) you’ve visited that cause you similar reflection as perhaps you feel at a National Monument or Memorial. @59NationalParks @naturetechfam #ParkChat

A3 We visited the 9/11 memorial in NYC soon after it was completed. After visiting inside we stood by the fence around the fountain outside. w names cut into the railing. We spent a long time at that fence. The whole memorial was overwhelming. #parkchat

A3) Reading stories, seeing names, or hearing rangers talk about events probably the most. #ParkChat

A2) If there is a special event, or a new exhibit! Or if it is on the way for another park visit! #ParkChat

Yeah, humbling for sure when you see the signs and the number of people lost. #ParkChat

After Devil's Tower NM, this was the first NPS site @patred.bsky.social and I visited on our now yearly road trip. Very, very, very solemn. #ParkChat
