Enjoy the new NHL season, folks.

I’m pumped to be starting my 11th on the #NHLJets beat for @winnipegfreepress.com (and my 30th year at the paper) — and teammate @wiebesworld.bsky.social and I will have extensive daily coverage, at home and on the road, from now until the final buzzer.

And here’s colleague @wiebesworld.bsky.social with a profile on one of the new faces on the #NHLJets, who has been waiting for this opportunity and now looks to come out swinging and make a big impact.

Introducing the 2026-27 #NHLJets — where change is very much in the air (but especially in the crease).

My analysis of the opening-night 23-man roster, which was finalized Monday with an intriguing waiver wire add and looks much different than a year ago.

Imagine telling #NHLJets fans at the beginning of last season that a year later the goaltending duo would be Stuart Skinner and Clay Stevenson.

Here's my early story on the #NHLJets claiming Clay Stevenson on waivers, Danny Zhilkin and Henry Thrun passing through and what might still be to come for Winnipeg with regards to the roster.

Nice read here from Kenny on one of the many new faces that will be in the #NHLJets roster to begin the 2026-27 season.

This #NHLJets roster would have 7 adds from the start of last season (10 if you include healthy Lowry, Perfetti, Samberg)

Bjorck, Rosen on F
Ferarro, Bauer, St. Ivany on D
Skinner and Stevenson in G

Salomonsson (IR) would also be an add.

That's a lot of turnover.

#NHLJets 23-man roster if DiVincentiis/Yager sent down and Salomonsson/Brown/Duehr go on IR

13F:
Scheifele
Connor
Perfetti
Vilardi
Bjorck
Rosen
Lowry
Barron
Lambert
Namestnikov
Niederreiter
Iafallo
Koepke

8D:
Morrissey
DeMelo
Pionk
Samberg
Ferarro
Bauer
Fleury
St. Ivany

2G:
Skinner
Stevenson

The #NHLJets claim goaltender Clay Stevenson off waivers from Washington.

The 27-year-old Alberta product is 63-31-11 in the AHL with a 0.909 save percentage and nine shutouts in 109 games.

In the NHL, he’s 3-2-0 with a 0.906 save percentage.

Good news all around for the #NHLJets. They claimed G Clay Stevenson on waivers, and also didn't lose F Danny Zhilkin or D Henry Thrun, who both cleared and can now be assigned to the #MBMoose.

Other notables: Old friends Laurent Brossoit, David Rittich, Ville Heinola cleared.

Tick, tock.

We're about to find out at the top of the hour if the #NHLJets made a waiver claim for a goaltender. I'd be surprised if they didn't.

6. #STLBlues, 91
7. #Smashville, 84

Had to go w a diff winner this year bc it’s hard to repeat. The #Western Conference is my weakest knowledge.

🧵 5/7

There are 11 goalies on waivers today.

I won’t be surprised if the #NHLJets claim one on Monday to serve as backup to Stuart Skinner.

Names that catch the eye: Dylan Garand (NYR). Clay Stevenson (WSH). And a couple old friends in Laurent Brossoit (ANA) and David Rittich (NJ).

My boss is a big Caps fan and he definitely said #NHLJets should pick up Stevenson.

#NHLJets have placed D Henry Thrun and F Danny Zhilkin on waivers for the purpose of assignment to Manitoba (AHL).

Cheveldayoff keeps saying he wants the Jets to win now, but the roster moves that the #NHLJets keep making suggest they'd rather tank.

I can't wait until the day the franchise doesn't get infatuated with no-talent defensemen that have "a presence"
