Depiction of a #Maya lord being presented with a bowl of frothing chocolate #InternationalChocolateDay

Chocolate held ritual significance in the Maya world and may have been used by Maya dignitaries to help establish their social identity and position.

Painting of a person sat on a platform holding their hand towards a frothing bowl. In front of them, another person kneels with their arms folded.

A carved stone block representing Chaac, the Maya god of rain, thunder, and agriculture.

The distinctive spiral eyes and curling fangs are characteristic of Chaac imagery. These blocks were used as architectural mosaic elements.

Seen at Gran Museo Maya in Mérida.

A turtle with a human head—an unusual but fairly common motif in Maya art, probably representing the Maize God, one of the most important deities in Maya mythology.

Seen at the Gran Museo Maya de Mérida.

A deity associated with merchants and cacao, Ek Chuah was an important figure in Maya culture.

This ceramic dates to the Postclassic period (900–1200 CE). I love the expressive face and the traces of blue and red pigment that have survived.

Another Maya pic based on a Pepe Le Pew cartoon, this time from "Who Scent You?"

Seems Maya got herself wet after falling in a river and uses a hair dryer to dry up. Though her fur gets a bit puffy in the process.

I really like the simple decoration of this plate, with its charming birds painted around the surface.

Sometimes, simplicity is what makes an object so beautiful.

The Central Ballcourt is in #Tikal—To the ancient #Maya, the ballcourt served as a sacred ritual space for religious ceremonies, political diplomacy, and the symbolic reenactment of creation myths rather than just a simple athletic field #Guatemala

One of the objects on display that impressed me the most: a carved Maya stone mask from the Late Classic period, associated with Puuc architecture.

It was used as a decorative architectural element on monumental buildings.

Seen at the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya in Mérida.

A golden frog pendant from the Sacred Cenote at Chichén Itzá, which I saw yesterday at the Museum of Anthropology in Mérida.

I struggled to get a good photo because it’s protected behind thick cylindrical glass.

Second picture from a different angle in the thread.

Can be used on walls, ceilings and even floors.

Very common you'll mess up your current Maya workspace to something you didn't want & NOT know how to get it back.

Happens so often w/easy solution.

Go Windows > Workspaces > Reset to Factory Settings.

This resets to default, get everything back & any custom shelves stay
