I posted a short thread about mine earlier. In short, I’ve lost the Dutch and Norwegian parts completely, and gained Devon & Somerset. It’s definitely a closer match to my documented family tree. #DNA #FamilyHistory #Genealogy

Between 1749 and 1768, three waves of settlers came to Nova Scotia, and the third one brought its own way of keeping records.
Nova Scotia's oldest continuous church registers were kept by the French Acadians. Port-Royal was founded on the Annapolis Basin in the summer of 1605.
Ontario began registering births, marriages and deaths in 1869, two years after Confederation. Before that, births and deaths were usually recorded only by churches.
In June 1812, the United States declared war on Britain, and Upper Canada was the front line. The war left records behind: militia pay lists name the men who served.
On 26 December 1791, the old Province of Quebec was split in two, mostly along the Ottawa River. West of the line was Upper Canada, today's Ontario, with roughly 10,000 settlers.
After the American Revolution, about 7,500 colonists loyal to the Crown came to what is now Ontario. Most arrived in 1783 and 1784, on land along the St. Lawrence, the Bay of Quinte and the Niagara River.
Nova Scotia stopped registering births for 30 years. If your Canadian ancestor was born there between 1878 and 1907, there may be no indexed birth record online to find. Your claim still rests on proving where they were born.
DNA is a powerful genealogy clue—but understanding your matches is where the research begins. 🧬
