A yellow and black swallowtail butterfly hovers above a pink flower on the right hand side of the frame. It is looking straight on at the camera and its wings are nearly flat. My research says this is a northern paper wasp. (Please correct me if I'm wrong @grays.art) It is perched on a Sweet William blossom, in our garden this week. There just happens to be a paper wasp nest above this flower, under the house eaves!

A mostly black wasp eyes the camera warily while perched on a pink Sweet William blossom. It has yellowish legs, thin dark wings and narrow yellow stripes on its abdomen. The blossom is hanging down with delicate ruffley petals and pale green receptacle. There are other buds and darker greenery surrounding. The house side is in the background.
