Max and the now sockless Fairweather slouched on the couch, half laughing at the emotionless Fred and his ‘we’re even’ expression. The rest of the party were trying to decide the best way to salvage the flaming disaster that was once Edwards beloved grill. The exhausted decision was to order the pizza from the usual place with the usual toppings. The ice seemed to be finally breaking when Peterson whistled, and called out. “Hey guys, who the hell did this?” On the empty draft board, the first slot had been filled. A knife Max had not seen in two months, pinned a selection to the wall. He felt the hair on the back of his neck stand up and a chill ran down his spine. He remembered locking the backdoor.

Now Mom and Dad? She thought it had been just her and Blair. Does she have to save that for her kids, or can she throw it out of the window and burn it? Finishing the beer, she knew that nothing was as it seems and everything around her was a distraction. Like makeup over Magic Marker, you might have to look real hard but it’s still there. Just one more day and four more beers to go.
