Caladenia paludosa - Swamp Spider Orchid

Often found growing in dense coastal heathland in areas that are swampy in winter, hence its common name. Endemic to the southwest of Western Australia.

An Oak Tree a Day
Aside from the funky trunk thing, what is this tree hiding? A double trunk can spell disaster as the bark expands pushing the two apart thus weakening the attachment. I think this one is good tho living its best twins. Look closely, a giant nest? California #nativePlants #nature

An oak tree on a slope looks to have 3 separate trunks but the lower one reaching for the ground might be a separate tree where the canopies intertwine as one. There is a thick duff layer of dried leaves in the foreground with many more trees in the background. The sky is blue with scattered clouds. Looking closer in the canopy there seems to be a giant nest of dried leaves.

Today was a perfect day to get out and hike the trails at Hawthorn Hollow Nature Sanctuary!

Wider shot of Helianthus microcephalus covered in blooms covered in #bees & other #pollinators. Not species I ordered & chainlink is maybe 4’ tall so she’s not smol but very upright. Be brave & plant big #NativePlants in small places!

A towering mass of tiny yellow flowers and so many buds that it will go on until frost even if that isn’t until November. Probably 6-8’ tall but blooms all the way down and pollinators are in love.

Pruinose squash bee, Xenoglossa pruniosa and beetles in a hedge bindweed flower, Calystegia sepium. Unlike the invasive field bindweed, Convolvulus arvensis, hedge bindweed is native in the United States. It hosts many native insects on its leaves, especially beetles.

Signs you have an older dog:

The once-insistent bunny-detector is now completely oblivious to the bun-bun sitting in the #nativeplants garden

(So far, the only plant he or she has eaten this season that I really cared about is my showy tick-trefoil)
