There's no reason to try and make students figure out the social-knowledge aspects of math. Likewise, there's no reason to teach the logical parts of math as if they were social.

Start your day with this #yohaku. Fill in cells with 9 different factors of 750 to get totals shown in each row/column. #mathsky #iTeachMath

Use 9 different factors of 750 in a 3 by 3 grid. The numbers in the top row add to 82. The numbers in the middle row add to 32. The numbers in the bottom row add to 415. The numbers in the left column add to 386. The numbers in the middle column add to 57. The numbers in the right column add to 86.

Finally got a few sets of @hpicciotto.bsky.social ‘s Lab Gear and introduced it in #MathsToday. You can do a lot more than with standard algebra tiles. Looking forward to trying the various explorations and activities to see what emerges. Does anyone else here use these? #iteachmath #mtbos

Here's a fun problem from Polya:

72 turkeys cost $ _67.9_

>What are the missing digits?
>How much does a single turkey cost?

(Note - the price for a turkey is going to look wildly out of date)

Before you divide, estimate. For 168 divided by 7, round to 175 divided by 7 in your head first, that is 25, so the real answer should land close to that. Estimating first catches most mistakes before they happen.
