Das war eine kurze Postseason

Für wen sind wir jetzt, @quarkbaellchen.bsky.social ?

There will be no October baseball at Wrigley Field in 2026. The Cubs were swept out of the National League playoffs by the San Diego Padres, in a 4-1 win that made clear how many hard questions lie ahead for the team this winter. #cubs #chicago

The best chance #Cubs will have to unseat #Brewers in the NL Central came in 2025. The last, best chance they had to make a deep run in October was this year—only, by the time they got to late September, even this year's team didn't have much juice left. Gulp. northsidebaseball.com/news-rumors/...

Him: ... This #Cubs team had a lot of soft spots.

Her: Yeah PCA is one of the soft spots.

Me:

I played the saddest song I know. #Cubs

The #Cubs with the old "score more runs than any other team during the regular season and then score one run over two playoff games" tactic: bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for them.

(It did not pay off for them.)

So what happens next besides a very likely lockout in December? Some tough player decisions. Perhaps a couple of coaches are sent packing. Perhaps a front office shakeup? #Cubs have to make changes after a really disappointing finish.

What a weird season. At times it was brutal. The injuries were crushing. But at sometimes it felt magical and like something was on the horizon. I don’t know what yet to make of it. But I do know that I was born a #Cubs fan and I’ll always be a Cubs fan. We’ve dealt with worse.
