Today is International Day of Non Violence

Images grounded in nature & cosmology give 1956 anti-apartheid march an elemental feel

The march ended with the 30 minutes silence

70 years later the struggle is not over - “And who will join this standing up”

✊ October is Black History Month, a time to reflect on anti-racist education.

👀 Read Penny Rabiger on teaching for racial justice, and Audrey Osler’s 1997 article on Black teachers’ experiences of racism.

Young student enthusiastically raising a hand while sitting at a desk in a classroom. The text on the image says "October Marks Black History Month" and "Celebrate with Forum."An image with a headline asking, "Does teaching racial justice and equity have a place in our schools?" followed by a quote discussing the importance of racial and social justice in education relating to workplace conditions and the Equality Act (2010). It questions how to ensure meaningful change and improve awareness. The text is attributed to Penny Rabiger in Forum, Volume 63 Issue 2.An image of a quote on a red and white background. The text is titled "Black Teachers as Professionals: survival, success and subversion" in bold black font. The quote reads, "My own career has not really been planned, and I cannot be described as having followed a traditional path, yet a number of its features are also to be found in the stories of those whom I interviewed. My study of black teachers' lives and careers suggests that those who have made it to the top have often had to choose non-traditional routes." It is attributed to Audrey Osler, Forum 39, 2, from 1997.

Representation matters!
Mae Jemison, the first black woman astronaut, was inspired to become an astronaut as a child by the black female character Lieutenant Uhura from Star Trek. Decades later, Jemison became the first real astronaut ever to make an appearance on Star Trek, in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation
