For The Hard Of Reading Some authors write such that reading them is like sitting next to a mumbler in a crowded bar. You discern the occasional phrase. But the majority is lost to the general din. Nevertheless, you persist. Nod from time to time. Grin. Gasp. Until, all at once, they pause. Give you pause. Did they ask a question you didn’t catch? You know you should admit— To them— Yourself— That you didn’t understand what they said. Request they repeat themselves. Yourself, go back over the missed pages. More often than not, you don’t. Instead, you smile. Nod. Shrug. The writer continues. And so do you. Convinced you’ll pick up the gist in what follows. Or if you don’t, that this is of no matter. Because what they asked you— Of you— Was of no matter.

Undemandingly.
Ignoring ideas.
