These photographs are from the great thangka unveiling at Ganden Monastery (1995) founded in 1409 and perched at 4,300 metres above the Tibetan plateau.

By the 1990s, the monastery, its religious life and its festivals were slowly being rebuilt and religious life returned.

notice what the #india–china thaw is made of: border trade reopened on 1 Aug through Nathu La, Shipki La and Lipulekh; the Kailash yatra ran a second season. Both run into #Tibet. The confidence building measures are denominated in the territory neither side will discuss.
