I love how this statue looks like it could have been created at pretty much any point in the last 3,000 years. Rather surprisingly, it's made from glass reinforced polymer rather than, as it appears, bronze.

The image shows the 42-foot-tall replica of the ancient Greek statue of Athena Parthenos standing in the central hall of the Parthenon in Nashville, Tennessee. The statue is on a raised white marble platform with a continuous gold-leafed relief frieze around its base depicting many small figures in procession. A low black stanchion rope barrier with dark red velvet ropes keeps visitors back from the platform.

Athena stands front-facing, her body covered in bright gold leaf except for her face, hands, arms up to the shoulders, and bare feet which are painted a creamy white. She wears a long, floor-length, pleated columnar robe that catches light with vertical folds. On her chest is a small white relief bust of a child. Her right arm is extended slightly outward holding aloft a small golden winged figure of Nike, the goddess of victory, who carries a wreath or palm branch; Athena’s left hand rests on a large round shield and a tall spear leans against her side.

Her head is crowned by an elaborate tall gold headdress with vertical elements and small horn-like projections at the temples. Her expression is calm, with blue eyes and red lips. At her feet, to the right of the statue, a large golden snake with detailed scales coils up the shield. The shield’s rim is gold with white spiral decoration; its painted center shows a colorful battle scene.

The interior around her is a classical temple: tall fluted stone columns line both sides receding into the distance, and a wooden coffered ceiling with recessed square panels and warm lighting is overhead. The floor is polished light marble that reflects a soft glow.

The close-up shows the lower right side of the statue at eye level with the base of the shield. A large, highly detailed golden snake coils around the bottom of Athena’s round shield. The snake is covered in overlapping scale texture, its head raised with a glossy red eye and a small red forked tongue. Its body loops in front of the shield.

The shield is enormous, its outer rim gold with a repeating white spiral and fan motif. The central field is painted with a vivid scene of many small figures in ancient Greek dress — some on horseback, some with bows — engaged in battle or procession against a blue and green background. Athena’s large white-painted hand grips the top edge of the shield on the right side of the frame, and her tall golden spear stands vertically just in front of the snake, partially obscuring it.

To the left, the edge of Athena’s long gold robe drapes down, with her white-painted foot visible at the very bottom. The base of the statue is a white platform edged with gold.

The headdress dominates the upper half of the frame: large, curved, ribbed gold elements radiate outward like a crown, with white painted swirls, beaded trim and small sculpted figures — including what appears to be horses and a white bird or griffin — set into the top. Athena’s white-painted ear and the side of her head are visible on the right edge.

Below the headdress, the statue’s back is covered in a shimmering gold robe with deep pleats and white relief details. Small white cherub-like figures are attached to the fabric near the shoulder. The statue’s white-painted arm is visible on the right side of the frame. Above, the interior ceiling is dark wood with a grid of square coffered panels, each with a faint starburst pattern, and thick wooden beams cross the top of the image.
