I unfortunately have not had the opportunity to read horror. School killed my desire to read and everything we read in school were biographies and āBased on true eventsā type stories
We werenāt allowed to read fiction in a public school
Robert Aickman scratches a very specific uncanny itch that I havenāt found with any other writers so far. A master of the weird.

Sci-fi & fantasy are concepts where as horror tells you the beats the story intends to take
I have several horror-fantasy stories in the works. Fantasy has a lot of spookiness to it, especially around cemeteries and abandoned areas. Horror upgrades the scenario

It's an area where spec fic gets to spread its wings. Show off. We don't just deal in piddling metaphors, we can make the nightmares real. There's probably a serious answer to this question but my brain is just going ball pool! ball pool! How weird can we make something?!
It is a very important element.
Horror teaches us lessons, will we recognise dangers, are we smart, can we survive?
Monsters show us the unknown. Is it scary? Is it friendly? Are Humans better or worse off?
Who is the real monster, us or them?
Stephen King

Nameās Emil Bronze, Iām a Minnesota-based fantasy writer
Iām very fond of Tucker & Dale VS Evil
My favorite monster however has to be Wendiwolves (Canāt use the proper name due to no snow)
Research on the psychosis for it is absolutely fascinating
#SFFChat The horror in Raw is existing in a world while living w conditions & cravings that the MC Askel can't control + his lover (a monster hunter) grappling w that.
In Beautiful, But Deadly, the beast Eadmund proves that sometimes the monster isn't always obvious but can be unassuming, in fact.

Yo! Jeremy here, writer of fantasy!
I watched The Birds as a kid and was scared off horror for (checks notes) practically ever.
My favorite monsters are anything in the fae arena. Weird rules. Beautiful but cruel. Like nature. Might kidnap me if I can find the right mushroom circle
Oh sorry. Did this in the wrong order. I'm Anna. Favourite horror movie? Gosh. I think maybe Alien.

I've heard the argument that horror is a mood rather than a genre. I'm not sure I agree, but it's perhaps a useful lens through which to view it's role in SFF. Rather like seasoning, it will enhance flavours if applied sensitively.
I like to think they're open to interpretation. Monsters & Horror could represent the subconscious fears of society and/or civilization. Fears rooted in anxiety, worry, suspicion, ignorance, repression, from what we do not understand, etc.

Thereās room for horror and monsters everywhere imo. I like the idea of an open monster society. Like monsters who arenāt hunted or whatever they just exist as the majority. That would be pretty cool.
All of it.
