FACTS ARE FACTS

Well the facts still remain the facts,
No matter what anyone may claim,
So if your goal is to go to Heaven,
You've gotta trust in Jesus' name.

Sure,

Hamlet in the Movies
written by: Angie Underwood

‘Action!’ just a word, I know,
but loaded as a gun.
‘To be, or not to be?’ I think,
‘Now that’s a tricky question!’
My trigger finger lingers…
then someone hollers ‘Shoot!’ #Fiction #Poetry #WritingCommunity #Spillwords #Literature

American poet & essayist Louise Glück died #OTD in 2023.

She won the 2020 Nobel Prize in #Literature for "her unmistakable poetic voice that with austere beauty makes individual existence universal." US Poet Laureate, 2003-04. #poetry #LitSky #BookSky

Nobel Prize-winning poet Louise Glück (1943–2023) is captured in this contemplative portrait, set against a rich, saturated forest-green background. A master of the "austere beauty" that made her one of America's most celebrated literary figures, Glück is shown in a three-quarter view, seated on a wooden chair. Her expression is one of quiet, penetrating observation—a look that mirrors the candid, often stark nature of her Pulitzer Prize-winning work like The Wild Iris. She is dressed simply in a black tank top paired with a matching black cardigan. Her silver-grey bob is neatly styled, framing a face that conveys a lifetime of intellectual rigor and creative reinvention. Her pose is thoughtful: her right arm rests on the chair's back, while her left hand is tucked under her chin. The composition is asymmetrical, with Glück positioned on the right, leaving a wide expanse of deep green to the left that heightens the image's sense of stillness and interiority. The mood is intimate and dignified, fitting for a woman who served as the U.S. Poet Laureate and whose legacy remains a cornerstone of contemporary literature.

Life comes with rules nobody remembers agreeing to.

Sometimes happiness is eating dessert first, saying no without guilt, or doing something because it makes you smile.

Here’s some poems. 💙💙💙

21 days until we take our country back.

A playful poem about breaking the unwritten rules of adulthood by eating dessert before dinner. Beneath the humor is a reminder that we don't always have to postpone happiness in the name of responsibility. Dessert First I ate the cake before my dinner. Nobody died. The sun still rose. The vegetables sat there judging me, but carrots have no right to vote. I've spent my life being responsible, saving the good things until the end. Tonight I licked the frosting knife and didn't offer to share with anyone. The dishes waited in the kitchen. The laundry staged its usual protest. For once, I let the world be disappointed. I took another bite of chocolate cake. If joy is going to be this temporary, I'm having mine while it's still warm.A humorous, relatable poem about finally using the fancy towels normally reserved for guests. It celebrates the small rebellion of enjoying the nice things we own instead of saving them for someone else's visit. The Good Towels We have towels nobody gets to use. They hang there looking very important. Apparently, they're for company, though company has never asked about them. I took one down this morning, the thick one with the fancy border, and dried my ordinary, unimportant face. Somewhere, an etiquette book caught fire. The bathroom looked exactly the same. No alarms sounded. No guests complained. I put the towel in the laundry basket beside the ones we're actually allowed to use. I've decided the nice things in this house should occasionally belong to the people living here.A gentle, funny poem about letting the phone ring unanswered and enjoying an afternoon without obligations. It explores the realization that being constantly available isn't the same as being a good person. Not Today My phone rang while I was doing nothing. For once, I let the damn thing ring. No emergency. No explanation. Just me and a perfectly good afternoon. I watched a bird argue with a squirrel. Neither seemed especially qualified. The coffee cooled beside my chair. The world continued making demands. For years I thought being available was the same as being a good person. Today I learned a different lesson. The bird won. The squirrel went home. I drank my coffee cold and smiled. Some things can wait until tomorrow. An uplifting poem about embracing harmless personal quirks, from singing the wrong lyrics to wearing a favorite ridiculous shirt. It celebrates the freedom of enjoying life without constantly seeking other people's approval. The Wrong Way I sang the wrong words in the car. Loudly. With absolute conviction. I wore the shirt that makes me happy, though somebody once called it ridiculous. I took the long way to the store because the trees were prettier there. I laughed at something inappropriate and apologized to absolutely nobody. Nothing remarkable happened today. No revolution made the evening news. But for a few ridiculous moments, I stopped auditioning for other people's approval. The world got the same old Tuesday. I got a little more of myself back.

Were Paganini still around,
we’d hear Il Cannone’s pure #sound;
true, his fiddle survives to this day,
for the chosen and worthy to play,
safely kept in the steadiest hands—
heavens, never in mine,
lest it slip from the line
and in pieces upon floorboards land.
