On this #NationalPoetryDay in the UK, we’re celebrating the poetry of #Jesuit Gerard Manley Hopkins.
Which of Hopkins’s poems have you enjoyed the most? We’d love to hear your favourites in the comments.
📷 Hopkins’s final vows, held in the archives.

‘But you must agree
with it, and love it,
even when it grows
too fierce for favour.’
Words of advice from the great poem-maker Edwin Morgan – happy #NationalPoetryDay!
— ‘Making a Poem’, published in Collected Poems (Carcanet, 1990)
It's poetry day
I should do something for that
Think that this will do?
It’s #NationalPoetryDay! In Year 6, we enjoyed The Great Big Clean Up by Christian Foley, linking it to our RE learning about being stewards of God’s creation. 🌍💚 We then wrote and performed our own poems about caring for our planet. ✍️🎤✨
My love poem to my house.
Had a poem published (separate post) thanks to @blacknorereview.bsky.social, drafted a poem, heard about a commendation #NationalPoetryDay #JustLikeAnyOtherDay
Earlier this year a competition shortlisting for one of my poems got me thinking about the ways that my creative writing and my work with charities feed into each other.
Happy #nationalpoetryday!
Here's one from my favourite living poet, Mr Tim Key
I never saw a purple cow
I never hope to see one
But I can tell you this right now
I'd rather see than be one
What's that?
National *poetry* day?
Oh. I see.
Does anything rhyme with clay?
