In the Shadows (2026): Jasmine Jobson plays Ramla Ali in this biopic of the first professional Somalian woman boxer, but hides it from her family due to cultural stigma. Despite strong turns from Jobson and Finn Cole as her converted husband and trainer, it's an inspiring story flatly told. #LFF
Paper Tiger: Ex-cop turned businessman Adam Driver brings his brother Miles Teller in to partner with him, only for Teller to fall foul of Russian gangsters in James Gray's crime drama. While the story is familiar, this is elegantly made and has a snake-like grip that's genuinely threatening. #LFF

Wild Horse Nine: Sam Rockwell takes his dying hitman partner John Malkovich to Easter Island in Martin McDonaugh's dark comedy. A rumination of death from those that take lives for a living, and while reminiscent of McDonaugh's In Bruges, it feels more contemplative, between the witty dialogue. #LFF

#LFF film 5: The Fox
★★★★☆
Olivia Colman voicing an animatronic fox trying to fix an Aussie hunter's marriage? Very silly (complimentary)

#LFF screening 4: 'Life / Drawing' – animated short films
★★★☆☆
Mixed bag of ten shorts*, ranging from quite a few that were so arty I could not get my head around them at all and/or my eyes hurt, to my favourite one, the rather lovely Eyeliner.
#EverestTheOtherSide is a compelling, emotional, sad but uplifting documentary about overcoming death, grief and championing the human spirit to confront and beat adversity.
The footage looks incredible and rather scary at times, ending in a triumphant note.
Worthy.
Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin’s EVEREST: THE OTHER SIDE is a stunning and humble documentary that leaves its heart on its sleeve.
Poignant, emotional, uplifting and inspirational, it takes us to the highest peak and allows us to bask in Jim Morrison’s triumph. #LFF
#TheBloodCountess is a weird, barmy, unscary, often comical horror send up that hardly really amuses or holds the interest for too long.
For something that promised much, it delivers so little.
Shame.
Animol (dir. Ashley Walters)
Ashley Walters delivers with his brutally grounded yet oddly heartwarming directorial debut. If you loved Wasteman from earlier this year, this will be right up your street. #LFF
Bunker (dir. Florian Zeller)
Though it’s better than Zeller’s last film, The Son, Bunker is still a bit of a mixed bag. Despite some strong performances and a jarring sequence in the third act, this is a film that tries to say a lot but not much at the same time. #LFF
Ray Gunn (dir. Brad Bird)
Despite taking a second to find its footing, once it gets into a groove it’s an absolute blast to watch. It’s full of fun characters, inventive set pieces, colourful animation and a refreshing sense of humour that keeps it engaging throughout. #LFF
I'm not as effusive about All of a Sudden as the majority. Virginie Efira and Tao Okamoto are excellent and I loved the story of their friendship, but the story doesn't warrant a three-hour runtime. This truly tested my concentration. Showing at #LFF
