If you want speed, check out Zombies mode. Stop the horde of Zombies from getting to the center. Sum to 20. Real-time play. The rainbow hexes are magical, activate them all! Fill up the heart meter for additional defense.

Has anyone found it helpful to use Khan Academy regularly in high school math class? We are now required to do 20 minutes of Khan Academy in each lesson because our principal "truly believes this is the additional support our students need." 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄 #mathsky #iteachmath

I saved the data.
In Nov, we'll use it to look at expected value.
In Feb, we'll use it to look at sampling distributions, & run some binomial- and chi^2 tests to see if we guessed better than randomly.

I can't wait.

If a Drillbook has helped your student, a quick review on Amazon helps other parents and educators find it too. Every review counts more than you would think for a small publisher.

I think the maths historians would probably call this a 'surveyors' problem. Am in the process of making a sheet of them ... unless anyone already has such a thing.

(The 40 and the 72 are the areas of the rectangles formed by the respective diagonals).

Here's a #yohaku to take you into the weekend. Fill in cells with 16 different factors of 840 to get totals shown in each row/column AND shaded cells contain triangle numbers. #mathsky #iTeachMath

Use 16 different factors of 840 in a 4 by 4 grid. The numbers in the top row add to 11. The numbers in the second row add to 360. The numbers in the third row add to 160. The numbers in the bottom row add to 41. The numbers in the left column add to 56. The numbers in the second column add to 166. The numbers in the third column add to 332. The numbers in the right column add to 18. The central four cells contain triangle numbers.

And the first day of my 21st year teaching came to an end! I was too busy to take a selfie today, but here is a screenshot of my "What is a sandwich?" opening day activity. Special shout-out to @sneffleupagus.bsky.social, who introduced me to this activity at @nctm.org.😊 #MTBoS #ITeachMath #MfAProud

Screenshot of a PowerPoint slide showing two photos: one with a lettuce wrap labeled "This is a sandwich" and another with a plate of meat and peas labeled "This is not a sandwich." Text below says: "What is a sandwich? Think silently first. Turn to the person next to you. Take turns explaining your definition of a sandwich. Use the following sentence starters: "A sandwich is...""

Rather than stressing why one doesn't belong, emphasize what the other three have in common. Discussion is key! Do it for each quadrant!

Yesterday was our first day of school. In #Alg2 #Algebra2, I put the kids into groups of 3 and asked, if we all shook hands with everyone in the room, how many handshakes would that be?

I LOVE this problem, esp. on Day 1.

Try this shady #yohaku. Fill in cells with 9 different integers to get products shown in each row/column AND sum of 4 shaded cells is -3. #mathsky #iTeachMath

Use 9 different integers in a 3 by 3 grid. The numbers in the top row multiply to -78. The numbers in the middle row multiply to -28. The numbers in the bottom row multiply to -220. The numbers in the left column multiply to 154. The numbers in the middle column multiply to -52. The numbers in the right column multiply to 60. The sum of the integers in the 2 by 2 square at the top left of the grid is -3.
