A mug of dark coffee with foam sits on a wooden surface beside a backlit keyboard with multicolored keys, casting a shadow. The warm light suggests an indoor setting, possibly a desk.

Large iOS codebases rarely stay neat, and this piece walks through the mess without pretending one repo strategy solves everything.

anyone still rolling their own image cache in 2026

i keep coming back to kean/Nuke — pipeline + processing + cache in one package. LazyImage for SwiftUI is clean.

Sometimes we want a gradient to span the whole plot rather than restart within each mark. In Swift Charts, alignsMarkStylesWithPlotArea(true) gives marks a shared gradient alignment.

Learn more in our book, Swift Charts Beyond the Basics:

Swift code applies a vertical indigo-to-pink-to-orange gradient to a BarPlot, followed by alignsMarkStylesWithPlotArea(true). Two stacked charts show identical bars of varying heights. In “Mark-aligned gradient,” every bar contains the full gradient. In “Plot-aligned gradient,” the gradient spans the plot, so shorter bars show only its lower colors and equal vertical positions share the same color.

Color This started as a practical family project: could I make a creative iPhone/iPad app I'd actually be comfortable handing to a kid? That shaped the ad-free, offline, low-friction design from the start. 🎨

Three days into my ClickHouse client, App Store Connect refused its name: another developer reserved it, and the store shows no such app. The .com and .app were gone too. Nine days on I renamed it all: 311 files, one commit. Create the app record first.

This is fixed in the upcoming v2.0.5 (144).
While I was at it, I also squashed a few similar bugs that were pretty rare and only showed up at certain specific GPS coordinates. I'll share the full changelog as soon as the update is live on the App Store!
