Matthew 19:26 (NKJV): But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Jesus has just told the disciples that you cannot buy your way into Heaven. Material wealth is not what gets you in. This is not what the disciples had been taught. This is still something we teach to this day. We teach that wealth is a sign of God’s blessing and is somehow a sign of Jesus’ favor on our lives. But wealth gets in the way of our relationship with Jesus. When we get so focused on something like wealth, we start to believe that we have control over God. We think that our great abilities will somehow force Jesus’ hand and get Him to do what we want. Our wealth will trick us into thinking we have power over things that we do not. Who gets saved? How do they get saved? We think we know these answers with certainty. But Jesus reminds us in today’s verse that we do not have those answers; only God has those answers. Only God has that power. Only God saves. Why, when and how God does that is up to God not us. We are called to follow Jesus along the path of life and live in the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not called to be God. We are called to trust and obey. We are called to live out of agape love with everyone. We are called to embody a life that freely gives out forgiveness and mercy. We are called to live out a life that brings healing and wholeness to all. Today, let the impossible be done by God while we live lives that show we truly have faith and hope in Christ Jesus.

John 15:5 (NKJV): I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
As I have confessed before, I am a city boy. So, when it comes to agriculture reference, I tend not fully grasp them at first. I have found that I am in need of more information frequently. Today’s verse came more alive in me after I saw a movie about a vineyard in California. In the movie they explained the importance of the vine to the production of the grapes. The vine’s ancestry helped determine the kind of grape that was produced. The vine’s health is what determines the quality of the grape. The branches can come and go through the years, but the vine remains the foundation of the whole system. The vine gives life to the branches. When I understood the relationship between the vine and the branches, I received a deeper understanding of our relationship with Jesus. Jesus calls Himself the vine. Jesus tells us that the source of our life comes from Him. What keeps us alive each day comes from Jesus. What strengthens and guides us comes from Jesus. Jesus is the source of our life. Jesus is the source of our love. Jesus is the source of our forgiveness and mercy. Today, may we learn to abide in life and love of Jesus.

Psalm 105:1 (NKJV): Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples!

Today’s verse is a call to action to those who believe in the LORD our God. For me, it is a reminder that the LORD is not passive but active. The LORD our God moves in our lives. The LORD our God pursues us for relationship. The LORD our God gives us strength. The LORD our God loves us into wholeness. So, today’s verse is a reminder that we are to be active in our relationship with God and others. We are to do things that show that we have faith in the LORD. We are called to literally throw praise at the LORD. We are to lift our voices to the LORD. We are to reveal to others the things God has done for us. Inaction and silence are not options we have when living in faith of the One who redeemed us. We do not ignore the times that the LORD our God showed up for us in our times of need. We do not stay silent that we have been given an eternal love by the LORD our God. Today’s verse is a call to daily action in the name of the LORD our God, so may we answer that call.
