2nd: Why do you write?
Because I need to do something creative - whether taking photos, directing/writing film/play or a book.
Without it, I know life would feel just... blah.
But the anticlimax after finishing is very real too

Hello #pretendpanel
I’ve always had stories to tell but recently writing has become a lifeline for me. When I write I am more grounded and less likely to experience a panic attack that day unless there’s a huge triggering event. Writing and meds took me from 5-6 panic attacks a day down to zero.

Originally, because no-one else was reimagining the Old Testament as a space opera. Now, as a parent of young people with autism and hidden disabilities, to tell their stories and represent them in fiction.
I write in general because it is a complusion and one of the easiest way for me to sort out my thoughts and feelings.
I write stories because I enjoy entertaining and the challenge of learning the craft.
I write emails because I have to.
I know it's a cliché, but I write because I'm compelled to write.
From the age of 3, I made up stories while staring out the car window. And once I knew how to write, I put them down on paper.
From 2nd grade through high school, teachers suggested being a writer.
It's who I am. 🤷♀️
To process my life and experiences in a healthy way. To have an outlet for my emotions to go. For escapism away from my anxieties about the current world.
Animals WIP is about my experience figuring out I'm neurodivergent. Dark Academia WIP is about my experience as a Gen Zer.

It’s the only way to quiet the voices™️.
Okay but in less ironic seriousness, I just feel driven to write. I’d love to have a more noble reason or for it to be this profound outlet, and maybe that’s part of it, but at the end of the day it’s just something I *do*, without much of a why
Always a fun question.
The quick and easy answer: For my characters. They exist only in my head, but I love them and I hope others will too.
The longer and less, "fun," answer:
I'm writing for me as a child who always felt trapped and had not so great adults in their life. 1/4
2) Why do you write?
Honestly? I feel compelled. There are stories in my head that demand to be told.
There are characters i my head that demand to be let free. Loudly. They have unionized and they have demands.
I have always been like this, even when I was a child.
Honestly? It's the only skill I have that I think has any value. I can't do much else, folks.
Also, I like doing it! And I get restless when I can't.

It's what keeps me sane and prevents me from diving into deep depression. The world sucks for lots of reasons, and I don't talk with ANY of my old friends. I write to find joy and help express my thoughts on the world. It's also helped connect me with other creatives.
Because it's fun. Because it's the easiest way for me to share my story ideas and characters with others. Because if I don't, I start feeling restless and antsy. #PretendPanel
In a general sense, I write because I have always written. It's just a thing I do naturally, like making art, or breathing.
Why I write novels, specifically, is to try to work through things I don't understand about being a person. But, like, with jokes.
Literal reason: Too much energy, too many stories in my head, I need to feel productive/be creative
Philosophical reason: Do I have a choice? I write because I have to. Because there are stories inside me that demand to be told, so I might as well put them to paper.
It's just fun, man. 🤷♀️ Even through all the struggle and self doubt, I never fail to get a kick out of it. (I blame maladaptive daydreaming lol)
Also, I like making people laugh and making things they will enjoy. Ain't it great that we can all share in that fun together?

... stories left in me that I just have to get down into text, one at a time, and it doesn't help matters at all when i add a few new WIP ideas tot he pile every month or so.
I write because i have to now. (6/6)

... but I drown it in enough chocolate to kill an entire SPCA just so i can get my Brew on for the night of writing ahead!
It's a part of me now and it's never letting me go, nor do i want it to. I have too many... (5/6)

... sometimes, and the thought just confuses me. If I'm not suddenly blind or lost my hands or suffered traumatic brain injury, why wouldn't I?
I drink coffee now to prep for writing! Coffee! It's disgusting to me personally... (4/6)
