Bunker (2026): Javier Bardem's architect has an ethical dilemma when a billionaire wants him to construct an underground bunker, straining his relationship with his wife Penelope Cruz, in Florian Zeller's drama. A very relevant commentary on the way we isolate ourselves, if outright states it. #LFF

Ray Gunn: Sam Rockwell's PI with integrity has to keep an eye on Scarlett Johansson's pop star in Brad Bird's animated sci-fi noir. Full of gorgeous art deco retrofuturism, this is Bird on his best form in a long time despite some obvious reveals, with Tom Waits' alien partner a highlight. #LFF

>> make this an engrossing watch.

Very highly recommended, especially if you like female-centric stories, cows, bells, sheep moving across the landscape, cats playing, cheesemaking & gorgeous shots of the countryside. Probably my favourite of the four #LFF films I’ve see so far.

The film’s director’s (and sign-language interpreter) introducing the film at the ICA.

>> Meanwhile, the community’s longstanding traditions are under threat from the proposed establishment of training facilities for the military, which will destroy the region’s peaceful atmosphere & beauty.

Gorgeous cinematography combined with a layered, nuanced storyline >> #FilmSky #LFF

TO HOLD A MOUNTAIN (Biljana Tutorov & Petar Glomazić, 2026).

The surprise package of my #LFF so far. This beautiful, meditative film paints a deeply moving portrait of the women who live & work in a farming community in the Montenegrin mountains.

A narrative non-fiction piece >> #FilmSky #LFF

A nice documentary on the life of Desmond Tutu. Nothing radical or special, but man, it’s the type of doc that makes you miss him, his philosophy and what he did for South Africa and beyond. His energy was infectious, which just made me smile throughout. #Tutu #LFF

Really enjoyed Olive Nwosu's film. Just like My Father's Shadow, there's something about how they capture Lagos, Nigeria with all of its vibrancy and complexities that was so familiar to me. Jessica Gabriel's Ujah's performance is a force of nature. Look forward to revisiting. #Lady #LFF

I honestly don't know what to make of this film because it's so lukewarm and tepid to me. Brad Bird's #RayGunn is certainly ambitious and occasionally fun at times. But it's also overstuffed and never finds the right flow. Definitely not a kids' film, but the adult stuff never lands. Purgatory. #LFF

Eleanor Coppola’s Making Marie Antoinette - finished posthumously by her kids - is a delightful if slightly melancholy on-set doc about the making of Sofia’s beautiful and radical film and how female artists balance their work and family.

I've been so stuck in with #LFF, but it's a sign of a strong lineup when 14 films in the lowest score I've had is a 2.5, and there's still so much great stuff yet to come over the next 8 days! Prepare yourself for a highlights thread:

#Everest:TheOtherSide is a gorgeous, heart-wrenching story of grief, loss and pushing on for the people you've lost. Hilaree Nelson and Jim Morrison put everything on the line to achieve their dreams, sometimes at the expense of those they loved. I laughed, I cried, I left inspired. #LFF

Ray Gunn - Skydance unfortunately made a very good movie. An obvious product of the 90’s that thinks it can deal with prejudice, and a hard-PG passion project that has carefully studied the greats. While it would have been awesome and even sexier in 2D, Bird pushes CGI close to the same thrill.

Brad Bird, Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson and Michael Giacchino (I only today realised that I should have made it more specific to the ticket bookers that I wanted to sit in the balcony)

Nineteen years in the making, A Mighty Adventure is like a Minuscule movie with twice the danger, twice the physical abuse and twice the cuteness. Real cinema. When kids in the audience end up crying over bugs, you know you’ve won. We’ve created such a threatening world for these little guys!!!

If Rogue Trooper had to be an all-CG movie, Tintin-ifying it on a budget and on Unreal Engine is not an unfitting way to go. As closely as Duncan Jones nails the Brit comic spirit, though, his nerd ambitions remain too big for his britches. Neither funny, mad, mean nor satisfyingly gory enough.
