Today’s devotional
#devotional

1 Corinthians 1:10 (NKJV): Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

The cult of personality was alive and well in Paul’s time just as much as it is alive and well in our time. There is something about being territorial that really appeals to people. I know I have suffered from it. We so easily can become exclusionary in the way we act and think. We see lived out every Sunday morning. All the different denominations who want you to believe only in their way. All the segregation of people in the pews. We somehow took faith in Jesus and made it divisive. Paul is reminding us in today’s verse that we are not supposed to segregate ourselves. Today’s verse is a reminder that we are not supposed to divide ourselves. There is only one Jesus, and He does not exclude. Jesus brings forgiveness, healing and love to all. Today’s verse is not a call for us to all become little robots of faith. We do not have to all have the same interests and hobbies. But we do need to be in unity about Who we have faith in. We do need to have unity in how agape love is to be shown to the world. We do need to have unity in living out the Gospel of Jesus. We do not have to have the same taste in foods or root for the same sports team. We are allowed to be individuals. Today, may we find ways to live out our faith in Christ Jesus that are not divisive but inclusive.

Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 5:20-21

For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. Romans 5:17

Proverb 15:22 (NKJV): Without counsel, plans go awry, but in the multitude of counselors they are established.
I have confessed before that I am naturally a loner. As an only child of two only children, I gravitate towards doing things on my own. Since becoming a husband and father, I learned to include others but still am comfortable with being alone. What I have really learned over the years is that any decisions that need to be made must not be made in a vacuum. I have learned that major decisions take a lot of input from other people. I have learned that multiple voices help me focus on what God is truly telling me. It is very easy for me to confuse my inner voice with the voice of God. When I really want something, I can find a way to justify myself on my own. I have found that I do not always make the best decisions on my own. My desires and lusts tend to get in the way. So, I have learned to seek out the counsel of others. I have learned that the people in my life can see me more clearly some days than I can see myself. I have learned that the voice of God is found when I listen to other people speak. God uses the people around us to speak truth into our lives. Sometimes another tries to use those same voices to lead us astray, but the LORD our God’s voice will be heard in the unity of voices in our lives. Today, may we seek out the counsel of the LORD in our lives so that God may be glorified

We demand justice with scales we've quietly tipped in our favor. The frame we build for the guilty closes around us too. The prophets kept saying it. We keep not hearing it. linktr.ee/ofdustanddawn #ChristianMusic #Faith #Devotional

Matthew 19:26 (NKJV): But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Jesus has just told the disciples that you cannot buy your way into Heaven. Material wealth is not what gets you in. This is not what the disciples had been taught. This is still something we teach to this day. We teach that wealth is a sign of God’s blessing and is somehow a sign of Jesus’ favor on our lives. But wealth gets in the way of our relationship with Jesus. When we get so focused on something like wealth, we start to believe that we have control over God. We think that our great abilities will somehow force Jesus’ hand and get Him to do what we want. Our wealth will trick us into thinking we have power over things that we do not. Who gets saved? How do they get saved? We think we know these answers with certainty. But Jesus reminds us in today’s verse that we do not have those answers; only God has those answers. Only God has that power. Only God saves. Why, when and how God does that is up to God not us. We are called to follow Jesus along the path of life and live in the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not called to be God. We are called to trust and obey. We are called to live out of agape love with everyone. We are called to embody a life that freely gives out forgiveness and mercy. We are called to live out a life that brings healing and wholeness to all. Today, let the impossible be done by God while we live lives that show we truly have faith and hope in Christ Jesus.
