Friday flower
Among the earthy tones of the mallee and spinifex of Yellabinna, these hakeas are a standout in the morning sun. Recent rains have brought out the flowers along Googs Track, including these nectar-rich beauties.

A great owling day. We checked in on 3 pairs, one pair we've not visited for a year, and saw 8 owls! It's unusual to see owls everytime you go out but we were very jammy, learned something new, and even picked the exact spot to watch the elusive pair fly overhead at dusk. #birds #wildoz #birsbane

Elythranthera brunonis - Purple Enamel Orchid

The first Purple Enamel Orchid I’ve seen this season in the Perth Hills.

I love the blotched pattern on the backs of this orchid’s sepals and petals.

Kennedia coccinea - Coral Vine

A climbing shrub which usually has vivid orange & cerise pink flowers but we spotted one plant recently with stunning pale pink flowers.

Endemic to the south west of Western Australia.

Setocoris sp. - Sundew Bug (I think)

These tiny plant bugs are often found in association with carnivorous sundews (Drosera sp.), where they steal the sundew’s food.

This bug was on a Stylidium, rather than a Drosera, which made it much easier to spot.

One of the drawbacks of being so woolly on a wet winter morning 🐛💧

A caterpillar we spotted recently on a cool winter’s morning in an area north of Perth. No idea what this guy is destined to metamorphose into 🦋🔎

Wrong everything on this, other than you can see that this tiny Eastern yellow robin has snagged himself a yabbie; a local crustaceanal delicacy.

Great story here from the ABC! Really exciting to see progress being made in returning threatened native species to part of their former range in Western NSW. #WildOz #marsupials #AustralianWildlife

A good news story for this Tuesday morning ⭐️

Exciting signs of success after seven locally extinct native species were re-introduced to a corner of north-west corner of NSW, including western quolls and Shark Bay bandicoots

These tiny Blue Stars (Chamaescilla corymbosa) are a common sight across southwest Western Australia at the minute.

Usually a vibrant blue (R), we spotted a few beautiful white ones recently in winter wet areas of Wandoo National Park.

Did you know the kurina/Tasmanian wedge-tailed eagle's (Palawa) wingspan is >2m, making it one of the largest eagles alive? 🦅

Sadly, it is a #ThreatenedSpecies. Less than 1000 birds remain. Protecting its forest homes from human activities like logging is critical to protecting the species. #wildoz

Bush Stone-curlews nesting during rain and heat in Kingscliff. The clutch size is 1 to 3 eggs laid in a shallow scrape in the ground. Both adults are sharing the incubation and future care of the young.
