Adding to this #Gannets thread again, for #Seabirds (today’s main #BirdOfTheDay theme) and #SuperSeabirdSunday. This pair of Gannets, at Bempton Cliffs last Monday, were engaged in mutual preening. #Birds #UKWildlife #EastCoastKin #NaturePhotography 🌿

Photo of a pair of Northern Gannets (Morus bassanus) standing on a sandy ledge on a cliff, and engaged in mutual preening - the Gannet on the left is using his or her bill to preen the feathers on the top of the other Gannet's head, while that Gannet preens the feathers on the neck of the first one. The birds are mostly white, with yellow-brown colouring on the tops of their heads which runs part way down the backs and sides of their necks. Their long beaks are grey, with black lines around the edges and a further black line running along each side of the top part of the each beak, from the base almost to to the tip. Their eyes are blue-grey, with black pupils and thick blue rims. Their legs and webbed feet are black, with a pale green line running along the top of each toe. The background is a blue-grey colour - the sea, out of focus.
