Too busy with #aofoto and the just published!! magazine (shameless plug aofoto.art), & a bad cold, to think about the joys of rural postboxes.

Many thanks Helen. A lovely old box for #PostBoxSaturday Could have been there as George perhaps walked down to the town. Wonder whether he used it to send letters or postcards back to family in Yorkshire!

Got stuck in a traffic jam behind a lorry carrying a huge agricultural vehicle in Bawdsey but just at the right spot to wind down the window and get this shot of their Edward VIII box in a wall!

The same pair of Norwich EVIIR boxes with a bit more of their environment. The larger one is in Opie Street, NR1, the smaller is in St Georges Street, NR3. #PostBoxSaturday

Red post box with a black foot with a red brick wall background. It is in Opie Street in the City of Norwich The road is quite steeply sloped so the bottom of foot of the box - the part which is deeply embedded into the ground, is angled left to right. The box bears the crown and entwined E+R cypher of Edward the Seventh and the makers mark of McDowall Steven & Co. Ltd (London and Glasgow) whose foundry was Milton Iron Works, at 142 North Woodside Road, Glasgow. This is a type 'A' size box, the larger type with a cap of about 26-27" diameter. Made during Edward's short reign, 1901-1910. Because he was only king for nine years, three months and fourteen days, boxes with the EVIIR cypher are less common than those with the cyphers of Victoria, George V, George VI or Elizabeth II. Boxes bearing the cypher of Edward the Eighth, whose reign lasted less than a year (326 days, 170-is surviving boxes), have always been considered the rarest. It is possible that there are currently fewer Charles III boxes as they were only introduced in July 2024. Red post box with a black foot with a graffitied white brick wall background. It is in St Georges Street in the City of Norwich. The box bears the crown and entwined E+R cypher of Edward the Seventh and the makers mark of McDowall Steven & Co. Ltd (London and Glasgow) whose foundry was Milton Iron Works, at 142 North Woodside Road, Glasgow. This is a type 'B' size box, narrower than the type 'A' the cap is about 23" diameter. Made during Edward's short reign, 1901-1910. Because he was only king for nine years, three months and fourteen days, boxes with the EVIIR cypher are less common than those with the cyphers of Victoria, George V, George VI or Elizabeth II. A pair of EVIIR boxes in the City of Norwich, showing the difference between the type 'A' and narrower type 'B' pillars. Both products of McDowall Steven & Co, Ltd, they were cast at the Milton Ironworks, 142 North Woodside Road, Glasgow during Edward VII's short reign (1901-1910) #PostBoxSaturday

An interesting G VI R wallbox encased in a brick pillar for #PostboxSaturday

Due to location in front of relatively new houses, I was unsure if the pillar was original or had been resited or made from reused bricks but looking at the NLS maps it predates the houses by at least 40yrs (LB)!

A red letter box, encased in a brick pillar, standing in front of a hedge and houses.A screenshot of the National Library of Scotland maps resource. Showing the junction of Cockett Lane and Mansfield Road, Farnsfield, Notts.
