A Common Carder Bee with its fuzzy yellow stole-like upper body covering and arched lower striped body curved under a light lavender coloured Catmint flower. The insect's veined gossamer wings are folded back and hanging over the light green foliage of the plant. Its hairy black legs grip the flower while the thin black tongue penetrates the bloom to extract nectar, watched by the bulbous glossy eyes. The antennae probe the area for more feed. Hoping for a good year for the Shorties 🦉🤞 2025 was a disappointment, so fingers crossed for plenty more sightings this winter.

Our largest local #butterfly, the #GiantSwallowtail feeding on a coneflower. The topsides of their wings are predominantly black with yellow accents, and the undersides are the opposite. So delicately beautiful. #FlyDay #EastCoastKin
