Recent gaming: Bone Wars, a Euro game about early Paleontology. There’s A LOT going on in this game, and it was definitely a learning game for the three of us. The economy seems really tight, and that it’s easy to hamstring yourself if you’re not careful about your spending. #boardgames

Played Folklore: The Affliction. Wife and I tried to get through the introductory story of the campaign. We just couldn’t get a leg up. We got to the last battle, it was pretty much over before it started. Not sure if we’re missing something, just bad luck, or if the game is overtuned. 🤷‍♂️

Got around to trying Cthulhu: Death May Die. Feels like Zombicide with more upkeep. Not necessarily a bad thing but I wish the mob turns were as smooth as the player turns. Felt clunky every time we had to deal with the mobs.

-Gain resources by digging to build workshops fueling a point engine

Inside the Machine

Fun race game. Players have robots of various powers that they play on a board worker-placement style. Race to get three of your low level circle bots converted to the hexagonal bots, and race them to the delivery bay.

Airlines Europe is a classic. An Alan R. Moon design, you can see the Ticket to Ride influence in this. Light stock game, and some cool choices to be made throughout the game.

Xylotar is another trick taker, but an actual trick taker. The twist being that your neighbor knows your cards, and hands them to you for you to splay them facedown highest to lowest in value. Red is trumps, and you get a better idea about the state of your hand through the round.

Played some pretty sweet games yesterday at Meta-Games Unlimited for October Game Day.

We started with Pies.
This is an interesting twist on a pseudo-trick taker. You play cards, but the highest played card then gets to pick one card to collect for sets, recipes, or actions.
