An open door at the remains of Lincoln’s medieval bishops’ palace.

In 1541 Bishop Longland hosted Henry VIII and Queen Catherine Howard at the palace. One of her alleged ‘indiscretions’ is said to have occurred here.

St Hilda, Hartlepool. A fascinating church, advertised opening hours 11 to 1.30 on a Wednesday. Everyone inside was really lovely, but when I left just before 12 the doors were already closed and the sign taken in. It seems a shame, for I'm sure it would have plenty of visitors. #ADoorableThursday

The narrow, wooden, chocolate-brown church door at Hinton-in-the-Hedges in Northamptonshire. It has long black metal hinges, a pointed stone arch above and a sense of ancient stability. There is a grey drainpipe to the right of the picture. It was sunny, with the left side of the door in shadow and the shadow of a tree on the wall to the right of the picture.
