As broad of shoulder as Daniel, Jake had exceptionally long arms and legs. His

body seemed to consist of many angles, all at odds with one another. Where his brother stood with a silent compact grace, Jake was

constantly in motion, and he moved like a fractious colt. The bright red hair he’d inherited from his mother was ruffled by the breeze.

His eyes were light blue and ginger freckles dotted his face and hands. The boy was already tall, and was shooting up so rapidly Daniel was sure his own six-foot-two-inch height would be surpassed before the summer’s end. Yet their faces were alike―broad brow, strong straight nose, squared chin. Different as they were, they both looked remarkably like their father.

Brian smiled a little at the thought of them together―born just four hours apart, but as different as... as a cat is from a bear, he decided. As a big, black cat is from an old, shaggy bear.

He was happy with his simile. Himself as a graceless, lumbering bear, his brother a cat with a voice that could purr or spit or sing. Broad powerful shoulders, long legs, uptilted eyes that narrowed to slits in anger or frustration. The sleek dark hair of a panther, the quiet way of moving. The long, pointed, mobile face. And the gun as quick and deadly as the slash of a mighty claw.

The #ConnectedAtBirth #etymology of the week is CLITORIS/CLIMAX #wotd #clitoris #climax #ladder

I hope everyone knows by now that clitoris and climax go together—and perhaps etymologically too! Clitoris comes from the Late Greek diminutive kleitoris of the same meaning but the root of this is uncertain. It might come from the verb kleiein “to sheath” in reference to its being covered by the labia minora or because the related word kleis has the secondary meaning “key”. Or it might come from Greek klitys “side of a hill” from the Proto-Indo-European root *klei- “to lean” thus meaning “little hill”. This root also leads to English ladder (from Old English hlæder) and Greek klimax, literally “ladder”, which came into English as climax with the figurative rhetorical sense of the climax of an argument. Climax gained the sense “sexual orgasm” in the 1880s and is said to have been promoted in the 20th century by birth-control pioneer Marie Stopes.
