#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment Blackberries still ripening though not many left now.
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment Borage still in blossom though far less so now.
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment This scarlet pimpernel blossom remains closed. Apparently 'flowers close when atmospheric pressure falls and bad weather approaches.'
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment Last of the Self-Heal.
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment Thale cress now reappearing. This one a small new plant.
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment Henbit Deadnettle flowers making a rare appearance. Apparently at times of year when there are not many pollinating insects, the flowers self-pollinate.
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment Have never seen this before but apparently is called Lesser Swinecress
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment This week noticed a lot less bees, insects, and blossoms too. Seems all are getting ready for winter. One exception seems to be this Purple Toadflax.
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment Field Woundwort thriving. And here's a favourite fact...
'As its common name 'field woundwort' suggests, this herb has been used since Roman times in healing wounds, and its seeds, scattered by Roman soldiers, mark the lines of Roman roads.'
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment And the last for this week....Great Hairy Willowherb still hanging on in there.
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment More Chickweed...
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment Chickweed now reappearing.
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment Speedwell still flowering.
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment Phacelia appeared early in the season and now a few plants have remerged for the end of it, not many but heavily visited, this one by a a hoverfly.
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment Wild Radish and bee.
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment Wall Rocket.
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment Lettuce left to seed still providing valuable nectar and pollen for bees and hoverflies.
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment At the other end of the abandoned bean bed Shaggy Soldier quite happy to colonise the space. Will probably provide food for insects and soil cover before it dies back in winter, being frost sensitive, so not a problem for allotmenteers, rather a help.
#WildflowerHour #WildflowerAllotment Field Woundwort and Shepherd's Purse happily taking over an abandoned bean bed.
