One more 👍 - the progressive rendering that I've seen from both AVIF and JXL look good, with those widely supported I'd ditch any other color blur pre-fill approach. #webperf

You use Promises for every async task.

Tomorrow, you might use scheduler.postTask instead.

They handle tasks in very different ways.

Here is how they change web performance.

An educational graphic titled 'Scheduler API' comparing task cancellation with a forest background. It shows how standard Promises require manual event listeners (addEventListener) on AbortSignal to reject a task, whereas the modern Scheduler API natively handles the AbortSignal through its options object in scheduler.postTask. Footer shows Lionel Péramo's profile.

If your site feels fast in DevTools but ranks poorly in Google, you're likely seeing the gap between lab simulations and actual device thermal throttling. #glitchreplay #errortracking #sessionreplay #bugmonitoring #webperf #rum 2/2

The case against JPEG XL

Investigating JPEG XL's place as a Web image codec, by @giannirosato.com, via @webperfreport.bsky.social

A dark-themed line chart titled “SSIMULACRA2,” showing BD-Rate (%) versus encoding speed in milliseconds for several image codecs. Colored lines compare codecs including AOM, JPEG XL, aperture-alpha, Iris-WebP, libjxl, SVT-AV1, and libwebp, with labeled data points. Most curves show higher BD-Rate at slower speeds, while some reach negative BD-Rate at faster speeds.

Can you speed up your app at server startup?

PHP preloading loads files into memory in advance.

This helps your server answer requests much faster.

#PHP #WebPerf #DevOps

1/5

PHP code demonstrating how to preload classes and functions in PHP 7.4. The code shows three calls to the `opcache_compile_file` function, with explanatory comments. Two of the calls preload PHP class files, and the last one preloads a file of functions.
