10. New Little King's Story (2012)

While not as beloved as the Wii entry, this sequel offers the same fun Pikmin-style gameplay as you build a village and withstand monster attacks. I think works really well as a handheld game, personally!

9. Frobisher Says! (2012)

Originally released as a cheap/free showcase for the Vita's functions, this one's an interesting little cartoony game in the vein of WarioWare with short, fun to play microgames that make use of the portable's various features.

8. Unit 13 (2012)

Probably the best military shooter on the Vita, Unit 13 was made by Zipper Interactive (of the SOCOM games) and offers short but fun missions where you try to stay stealthy to maximize your impact when guns start blazing!

7. Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess (2015)

Also available on PS4, but quite fun on the handheld, this sort-of tower defense cause and effect strategy game from the Kagero series has you plant traps around a castle to trap heroes who wander inside.

6. Soul Sacrifice (2013)

Whether you play this one or its 2014 revamp, Delta, the Soul Sacrifice games are fun! They're in the vein of Monster Hunter and have you take down some pretty big foes by sacrificing your own body parts to enhance your own powers

5. Sound Shapes (2012)

Also available on the PS3 and PS4, Sound Shapes is a 2D platformer with a make your own level approach. The idea here is to set your platform stages to music, and the included levels not only are fun, but have some great tunes too!

4. Army Corps of Hell (2011)

This unusual third person shooter and strategy game is repetitive, yes, but it offers an interesting handheld-friendly take on the Pikmin/Overlord formula as you battle your way through hell commanding demonic goblin hordes!

3. Tearaway (2013)

Media Molecule wanted to make creative use of the Vita's touch sensors, camera and gyroscopes and they delivered with a truly remarkable papercraft 3D action platformer that is far better on the Vita than it was in its console remake.

2. Freedom Wars (2014)

A truly unusual action game with some light RPG-like customization, your crime of living in a world constrained by scant resources nets you a million-year sentence you can only chip away at by fighting monsters called Abductors.

1. TxK (2014)

Llamasoft's take on Tempest 2000 is considered to be Jeff Minter's finest hour, and it's a really addictive and fast-moving tube shooter that uses psychedelic graphics, power-ups and awesome music to keep you coming back!
