Castello di Amorosa Winery Il Barone Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, Napa Valley, California Deep purple in color with a reddish rim. Fruity nose of blackberries, black plums, cooked cherries, cedar, light vanilla, licorice, chocolates, black pepper and herbs. Full-bodied and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate and very fruity with blackberries, black currants, plums, cherries, cedar, light vanilla, tobacco, peppercorn, herbs and licorice. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Rich, extracted and fruit forward. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel, complex and engaging. This 8 year old Cabernet is starting to drink at its peak now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Showing good potential to become a 94+ point wine. Chewy, and a great sipping wine, that will also pair nicely with a big piece of steak. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in all new French oak barrels for 12 months. 14.9% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $145.

Marchesi Antinori Tenuta Guado al Tasso Cont'Ugo Bolgheri Rosso 2022, Tuscany, Italy It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back! Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Red and black fruits on the nose with tobacco, light wood, licorice, chocolates, black pepper, herbs and spices. Full bodied and soft with medium plus acidity. Dry on the palate with cherries, red currants, sweet raspberries, coffee, sweet oak, chocolates, licorice, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppercorn, earth and mediterranean spices. Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This 4 year old Super Tuscan Merlot is drinking very nicely now. Nicely balanced and elegant. Complex and entertaining. Needs a couple of hours to open up properly, and balance itself out. Still young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Will continue to age nicely in the next 7 years. Wine Spectator 94 points. I had the 2021 vintage a couple of years ago at the winery, and it was much better. The 2022 vintage was not as good as the 2021, so there's that. Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food. 100% Merlot grapes were aged in French oak barrels for 12 months. 14% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $65.

Nalle Winery Dry Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, California Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Pretty nose of red and blue fruits with light cedar, chocolates, herbs, spices, earth, green beans, light cloves, light vegetables, tobacco leaf, black tea and black pepper. Medium plus in body and elegant, with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with cherries, currants, cooked plums, light oak, spices, chocolates, licorice, herbs, peppercorn and green vegetables. Tangy finish with medium tannins and raspberries. This is a very tasty Cabernet Sauvignon from Dry Creek Valley in California. Fruity and entertaining. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Showing lots of earth notes at this point. Showing great complexity, especially on the nose, and easy drinking right out of the bottle. I did not decant it and let it open in the bottle. This 11 year old Cabernet Sauvignon gets earthier as it opens up, and feels like a California Cabernet with a touch of old world. Drinking at its peak now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years. I had it 6 years ago, and it is drinking better now. A good sipping wine that will pair nicely with food too. A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot. A small production of only 1,400 bottles. 13.7% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $70 (current vintage).
