G. Wells Avec ses scientific romances, H.G. Wells a imposé de grands thèmes classiques de la science-fiction : le voyage temporel dans La Machine à explorer le temps, les manipulations génétiques dans L'Île du docteur Moreau, l'invisibilité dans L'Homme invisible, l'invasion extraterrestre dans La Guerre des Mondes ou encore l'exploration spatiale dans Les Premiers hommes sur la Lune. L'essai romancé Une Utopie moderne (1905) synthétise toutes les idées politiques, économiques et sociales qui imprègnent la production romanesque d'H.G. Wells. Il projette 2 touristes terriens sur un double de notre planète sur laquelle s'est développée une Utopie Moderne. Continuateur de Platon, il décrit sa société idéale de l'avenir gouvernée par un État mondial où les femmes sont émancipées, le racisme est refusé, la machine libère l'homme, l'économie est contrôlée.
