“Just try harder” ignores the wall.
Jivavarta: narrative philosophy of Constrained & Transformative Agency + Forward Propagation by Shon Mehta.
Outcome = Choice × Structure × Constraint
What we do changes conditions inherited by those next.
#Jivavarta #SystemsThinking #ShonMehta

Cartoon illustration of a man in a yellow shirt and pants pointing aggressively with one hand while saying in a speech bubble “JUST TRY HARDER.” He faces a large brick wall labeled in big letters “STRUCTURE + CONSTRAINT.” A small child in a yellow shirt stands calmly in front of the wall, looking slightly upward. In the bottom right corner is a brown box with the text “Jivavarta has entered the chat.”Illustrated logo of a beige hard hat viewed from the side. Inside the hat is a maze-like structure with a silhouette of a person walking forward through it. Yellow arrows branch outward from the figure, and a small green leaf appears near one path. Along the brim of the hat is the equation “OUTCOME = CHOICE × STRUCTURE × CONSTRAINT.” Below the hat is the word “Jivavarta” in black serif font.

Can an #AI give a useful organisational health check to someone who has never heard of #SystemsThinking?

A second 'OrgLens' note explaining that plain language and evidence checks need to be built into the software, not left as instructions for the model.

Sometimes:

"We need a meeting"

actually means:

"We need a better process."

Recurring confusion shouldn't automatically require a recurring calendar invite.

A year ago, we asked whether Africa’s scattered AI efforts were emerging nodes of a continental system.

Today, the nodes are clearer.

The question now is: what will it take to make them function as a system?

We do not solve problems by treating symptoms. We solve problems by understanding structures. #systemsthinking

Can an AI agent help diagnose an organisation using #SystemsThinking?

I tested a new #AI tool called 'Raven' against Stafford Beer’s Viable System Model, with fictional organisations, hidden answer keys, and 26 trial runs.

The results were instructive.

What if the problem you’re fixing… isn’t the problem? Ray Vetuskey received a kidney from his mother in 1978—and nearly 48 years later, he’s still living with it. Sometimes, what you see is only the symptom. The real problem started much earlier.

ALT TEXT FOR THREAD:

There is not a single person who is organized around politics who is psychologically well right now.

Whether this was consciously designed or simply emerged from the incentives involved, the result is the same: two major political parties and their surrounding media ecosystems keep the general population too frightened and psychologically destabilized to mount an effective response to anything.

It functions as brilliant psychological warfare.

Everyone who thinks they are doing the absolute most to make people aware of the atrocities, from either side, is essentially cognitively curb-stomping the people around them.

They believe they are mobilizing people by keeping the atrocities visible. Meanwhile, they are helping maintain a population too frightened and cognitively overloaded to develop the stability, personal agency, and sustained attention required to build power and do something about it.
