#Sniptober 11!
I swapped for a synonym: sweet today. This scene is anything but. Lunaris is currently experiencing a fainting episode.

After you’ve posted your snip please check out the tag, read something you wouldn’t normally be interested in, support your fellow author with comments or 🔂 💙

They wobbled down the narrow wing, knees trembling with every step. Rae was waiting, arms open, a single rose cradled in one hand, its petals catching the stage light like fire.

“Hey,” Rae murmured, voice soft but steady.

Lunaris leaned into Rae’s chest, and Rae’s hand slid down their back, firm and grounding. The rose brushed against Lunaris’s shoulder as they took a shaky breath, the scent sharp and sweet. The heat of Rae’s palm, the steady pressure along their spine rooted them, tethered them to the real world, even as the echo of the stage hummed in their ears.

“Need to sit down, bad,” Lunaris muttered, voice tight, knees buckling just slightly.

Kira’s eyes snapped up, sharp with concern. She was at their side in an instant, hand pressing gently to steady their elbow. “Whoa, easy there,” she said, guiding them forward. “You’re looking a little pale. Let’s get you back to your green room.”

Sorry for the whole-ass scene, especially cuz I went with vibes “melancholy” instead.

But I love this scene in the little hidden graveyard, Helena encounters Kia, her crush, and talk a bunch. Then Kia reveals that, 20 years ago, she lost a friend she’d known for 200 years…

A lifetime for Helena, but little more than a summer for Kia. She wasn’t sure if she could wrap her head around what such a lifespan would be like, or to lose a friend you’ve known for centuries.
“I’m sorry.”
She wanted to say she knew what it was like to lose someone, but the comparisons seemed thin at best, so she just stood next to her, looking down at a stranger’s headstone in silence.
“A quiet place for their bones… What is more silent than stones?” Kia recited. Helena didn’t know how to respond to that. Had she heard it somewhere before? It was a beautiful sentiment, like the lyric of a song she had sung along with for years, but couldn’t remember the tune.
They stayed like this in the peaceful graveyard for a moment, close, the sanctuary enclosing them together sharing the same exquisite melancholy. After a few moments wherein their breathing fell into perfect alignment with each other, Kia seemed to shake it off. She looked up with her playful half-smile and gave Helena another once-over.
“You look like a sassy little blackbird in that,” she chuckled and reached out to adjust Helena’s cloak over her shoulders, fond amusement on her face. Helena flushed a little and an astonishing flash of turquoise glimmered around her, sending a ripple of unexpected joy through her chest. A moment later, Kia had kicked through the overgrown weeds, hopped the fence, and strode away.
With her gone, the little graveyard no longer felt as much like a sanctuary

Late to the party, but I have more time today 😊

This is from Path of Lyssa, my dark succubus fantasy. Charisse uses a mindfulness exercise to get his emotions back under control. No 'mellow' in sight, but we get there eventually!

#Sniptober

“Ten,” Charisse counted. “Twelve.”
Slowly, the roiling black of the curse began to recede into himself. Charisse could feel a presence standing at his back, though he knew there would be nobody there when he turned. Oculus, unknowable and mysterious, drew Charisse’s attention inwards.
It was so hard to mindfully sense the influence of the Dark Lord on himself when he was wrapped up in its embrace. But when he was actively reducing it, Charisse felt acutely the vicious, animalistic snapping and snarling of the version of himself that he hated. He grabbed the animal by its collar and began calmly tugging it back into its lair. As Oculus showed him the truth of himself and the curse faded, it became more like a mouse he had trapped in his palms. It scratched and bit at his skin, but it was a small pain. Then, smaller. A biting midge. A twinge in his muscle. Then, nothing.
“Thirty,” he said.
“And I think that’s enough.” Claire sniffed as she stepped away from him. Had she been crying? Charisse opened his eyes, but he didn’t see the any wetness on her pale cheeks.
“Now,” Claire said with a smile. “Let me find our friend. We can walk while I work.”

ooh #Sniptober ? 👀 I’m glad I found this before the month ended

going for ✨ soft vibes ✨

Yalo is the first person Maessil actually bonds with, through beating his ass in every single board & strategy game in the house

from “Pal”. . .

a screenshot of a few paragraphs of text. italicized text is bracketed by forward slashes. it reads:

“/Damn/, you killed me,” Yalo muttered, and for the first time in far too long, Maessil laughed—a dimple dotting her cheek; the shadows haunting her green eyes giving way for just a breath.

“He has a gift,” Echethier said.

Neszra nodded, and pushed himself off the wall with a sigh, “He really does.” And then he was grinning and joining them on the floor, pressing two fingers just under Yalo's jaw, the back of his hand to his forehead, and looking him and the board over. He frowned. “Dead indeed.”

Yalo closed his eyes and limply slumped against Neszra's shoulder, unmoving even as Neszra complained in llesz and tried to shove him off.

Eventually, /teetering/, Yalo fell and landed with his head in Neszra's lap, a second too late in grabbing onto his sweater. He stared up at those grey-blue eyes as his racing heart settled, and finally, blinked. Both broke out into wide, stupid smiles and laughed. The last time Yalo had found himself like that had been when he was 16, after being tickled until he screamed out his surrender, barely a minute in. He couldn't remember the spark of their playfight, but he had probably deserved it. Probably deserved worse.

No mellow, swapping with chill.

Truly open ocean is a terrifying thing for a creature of the land~😣

#TY4LM 🦈

‘You alright, Dylan?’
‘Yeah.’ I wasn’t alright. I was in the middle of the ocean. Miles away from anything resembling land. No matter how hard I swam, I’d die of exhaustion before I saw another person.
‘Hey, chill dude. I’ve got you.’
I didn’t realize I was shaking until she wrapped her arms around me and I became still. I wasn’t cold, but fear of the open ocean was permeating my every cell. There was literally nothing. I would die out here. No one would find my body. It’d be eaten and picked away at by everything from apex predators to detritus feeders as it drifted its way down to the ocean floor. This was dumb. What were we—what was I—thinking? I was going to die out here before I even made it to Xenacanthis, much less Marin.

#Sniptober "lovely"

from A Prayer for the Pirate Queen 🏴‍☠️ 💜 ⚓️ currently in third draft revisions

Kallista checked Geni, and found her eyes wide as they took in the sights. It gave Kallista an opportunity to slow down and experience it all freshly. How quaint and lively this town must be to her, straight out of Seraphinople. How truly lovely the night, no matter what the outcome might turn out to be.

Lovely

Jeri keeps getting confronted with impossible things and she's not having a good day!

#Sniptober

Next, Renard gestured behind him. “And this is my lovely mate, Jenette.”
“And Auntie Killer!” Gaston helpfully finished, pointing.”
“Yes, Auntie Killer.”
Jeri turned again to stare at Killer. Something kept pinging in her brain, and she was not going to acknowledge it. It was patently absurd.
“Jeri? You okay? You’re shaking.”
She was. Jeri crossed her arms, trying to stop her hands from shaking. This was too much. There was just no way.
Renard quickly scooped the kits up in his arms and stood in front of her. “Jeri? You look like you’ve seen a ghost. You should sit down. Breathe. Everything’s okay.”
Jeri collapsed to the ground and rested her head in her hands. She was shaking even worse now. “Jen? Can you get some water, please?” Jeri heard Renard call.
A moment later, Jeri felt something pressed against the back of her hand. She lifted her head. Jenette stood in front of her, holding a clay cup.
“Here, drink,” Jenette told her. Jeri took the cup in her shaking hand and gulped down its contents. Jenette then put the cup down and took one of Jeri’s hands in both of her paws. They were warm and soft, oddly comforting. “Take a deep breath. That’s it.”
Jeri closed her eyes, trying to calm her heart. She spotted Renard off at the edge of the clearing, bouncing the kits on his back. Her eyes swept the rest of the clearing until she spotted Killer again. Her heart gave a fresh jolt. There is no way. No WAY.
“Killer,” Jeri muttered. “You’re…you’re a…” She couldn’t even say it.
Killer cocked her head to one side. “Deinonychus? A raptor? A dinosaur? Either way, correct.”
Jeri looked down at the ground. “I think I’m gonna be sick.”

“You’re a…surprise.” Feriel made an awkward little nod, as though ducking his head and then thinking better of it. He gave Ragheiyont a long, thoughtful look. The encroaching sunset turned his gaze from aqua to a deeper underwater blue-green. “Those really are lovely horn caps.”

Ill jump in for this one, cuz this snip is cute. Nora has a secret crush on Bayle, the butler, and… uh… doesn’t quite register that he’s asking her on a ‘date’ when he proposes discussing business over dinner.

This is the first scene I actually wrote for this story 🤣🤦‍♀️
Nora 🤝 me.

"What can go wrong?"
"We could destroy a priceless, antique, luxury orbital in its entirety, killing people in the process, but not dying in the catastrophe ourselves, thus having to live with what we've done for the rest of our lives.”
He paused in his dish-washing for a moment, speechless, and his expression went blank. Then he shook it off and started washing again. "I meant over dinner."
"Oh."
"What could go wrong over dinner?" He smiled again and turned his full charm towards her. "The Alfredo gets cold?”
"Food poisoning?" She said, almost at the same time. His smile fell again and he turned off the sink. I'm such a ray of sunshine. Nora frowned nervously.
"I'm sorry. That would be lovely. I’ve brought a gift.”
She patted the bucket. He bustled through to the kitchen, wiping his hands, sleeves rolled up and tailcoat safely stowed over its corner chair. She tried not to look too long at his bare forearms.

Lanta, the town I didn't name until I wrote 7 more books and was forced to 😅 (the one benefit to writing for a decade before going back to edit and release!)

#WritingCommunity #SnipShare #Sniptober

“We should probably press forward. There are a lot of small villages along the main roads we can stop to rest in along the way. We don’t have any nocturnal birds that are out to destroy anyone, so it should be relatively uneventful.” Uneventful was something Loke suspected all of them would be looking forward to. “I haven’t been to Lanta since I was a child, but there is a lot of open area and the beaches were actually lovely if I am remembering properly.” She had a lot of mixed emotions about returning to Lanta for the first time in nearly two decades. She wasn’t sure if she would be able to continue to repress her grief longer or if the visit would trigger something deeper. For now, Loke decided pushing forward was the only thing she could do, regardless of her own emotions.

#Sniptober day 10

This one's from Backlash (Winter's Wrath Book 1)

Only mention of 'lovely' is sarcastic lol But it is lovely how Danica and Alder can talk about anything, including the hi-jinks of Alder's band mates 😂

#WritingCommunity #SnipShare

“You want to head over to the warehouse early? Is that where we’re meeting again?”
Alder cocked his head, his brow lifted. “Yeah, we’re meeting there, but I figured you wouldn’t be in a hurry to be around our lovely Madame Croissant.”
Croissant? Danica snorted. “That’s Madame Courchesne. Not sure how you got ‘Croissant’ out of that.”
His lips tipped into a sheepish smile. “I may have stopped listening to her when she started being a bitch to you. I heard Tate call her that a few times, so I thought that was her name. Might be that he’s not a fan of our choreographer either.”
“Probably not. Did you hear her lecture him about how he should be sitting straighter behind the drums? If it wouldn’t have screwed with the sound, he’d probably have laid his head right on the snare.”
Alder laughed. “There’s still time. I wouldn’t put it past him to mess with her today.”
“After we almost got all the moves perfect yesterday? No way.” Danica hopped to her feet, popping one last blackberry in her mouth before heading to the bedroom to get dressed. “I bet he’ll be on his best behavior.”
Joining her in the bedroom, Alder tugged on a fresh shirt, then gave her a challenging smile. “What are you willing to wager?”
She touched her tongue to her bottom lip and smirked at him. “I think I might enjoy having you as a slave for the day.”
“I think you get whatever you want from me either way, so winning won’t mean much.” His words were sweet, but there was a cockiness to his tone that had her arching a brow at him

Let's go with this one from a scene I need to work on this week and fits the "clueless Katie" theme I've had this week.😂

Here she's at a grocery store and sometimes women are just really friendly to her. Offering to show their tattoos, try a recipe together... just so friendly and nice.

#Sniptober

Screenshot of a work-in-progress manuscript with the word 'lovely' highlighted.

“Excuse me, I just need to get something from right there,” a woman says.
I look up from texting Kyle and see a lovely woman reaching up for a jar of cherry syrup on a shelf up near my head. She has remarkably vibrant pink hair with a cool shaved undercut, enough ear piercings that I am jealous, a nose ring I have certainly considered, as well as some gorgeous tattoos on both arms and working down her neck and chest.
I am especially amazed by the intricate line work of a vine tattoo weaving it’s way down the middle of her chest and flowing under the neckline of the red flannel she is wearing. It is unbuttoned enough to show an enticing amount of a complicated weaving of vines between her—
Whoops! Do not stare at women’s chests!
I look up and she is smiling at me.
“Heh heh, uh… hi there. I was admiring your tattoo.”
“I noticed.” She rolls the jar around between her hands rather than put it into her cart. Is she checking its consistency? “I… um… have quite a few more tattoos.”
@woldry.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 12:29 PM

“You’re quick, Peg. This is not, as the movies say, my first rodeo.” Jacqueline sipped her coffee and smiled over the rim of the cup. “Lovely. The coffee.”

The praise, the smile, the dark eyes, brought heat again to Peg’s cheeks.
