I didn’t k-kill her. Th-they did. Those evil adults—”

“I killed her,” hisses Goro. “They didn’t kill her, Futaba-chan, I did.”

Futaba throws open the door to the closet and jumps out, fists clenched. Her whole body trembles. “D-don’t call me that, y-you—asshole!”

“Call you—?” Goro cuts off. He hadn’t even noticed. He’s still… “My apologies, Isshi—” He practically chokes on the word. “…Sakura-san.”

“It’s ‘cause that’s what Mom called me, isn’t it?” Futaba hugs herself. The next part, she says quietly, timidly. “D-did she—did she talk about me?”

Goro can’t help but smirk at the memory. “Near constantly. I couldn’t stand how often she spoke of her genius, prodigy daughter.”

Futaba laughs, just a little, through her tears. “Jealous?”

And, well, Goro did agree to be honest. “Perhaps. Only a little.”
