For those we have lost. For those we can yet save. #ShadowbringersSpoilers

What will you say? Fate can be cruel, but a smile better suits a hero. We must all keep looking forward, like the heroes who never gave up hope for this world.

Alphinaud is lost in thought, his eyes downcast. There is, however, no sign of the self-doubt which once assailed him at the Falling Snows. “Shadowbringers” accepted. Ryne appears to be brooding over her choices, her faintly trembling hands betraying her mounting trepidation. Thancred stares quietly into the distance. He seems calm and assured, his easy stance born of confidence rather than false bravado. Urianger glances your way, his expression hesitant. You can see the struggle as he agonizes over the words he wishes to say. Y'shtola meets your gaze with a strained smile. You seem to recall her wearing the selfsame expression when speaking with Lyse and Runar.

I also really like that even though we barely see him here, the two big hallmarks of Hyth's character -- the laugh and soul sight -- are present here. It's implying that even though Emet-Selch seems to have forgotten his face, he hasn't forgotten those traits. #ShadowbringersSpoilers

@ver-caster.etheirys.socialOct 5, 2026, 1:45 AM

Cause Emet-Selch always kind of plays it as "why would I ever try to do anything else this is simply the natural course of action for a being like me" but we know come Endwalker that such was not necessarily the case. And the short stories imply he almost didn't choose this. #ShadowbringersSpoilers

@ver-caster.etheirys.socialOct 5, 2026, 1:45 AM

Also the fact that even back then they were having the same argument as we (the player) are currently having now against Emet-Selch... and only after 3/4ths of the population was gone did Venat act. Fascinating.

I also like that Hyth acknowledges Hades *chose* this fate. #ShadowbringersSpoilers

This cutscene is so interesting when looked at through the lens of Endwalker and now on the cusp of Evercold. It not only shows how early on Azem defected, but also says that Zodiark's original summoning didn't fix nature. I wonder if that's going to be relevant somehow. #ShadowbringersSpoilers

Optimistic Amaurotine: Thus it is with great incredulity that I greet this recent rumor that a seat in the Convocation is soon to be left vacant. Optimistic Amaurotine: If proven true, 'twould be an unprecedented development─and testament to the immense pressure under which our saviors are toiling... In any event, I for one am confident they shall deliver our star unto salvation.

Fun fact the name "Polyleritae" comes from Thomas More's 'Utopia' which is also where the name "Hythlodaeus" comes from.

I had to read it for one of my courses in college so you can imagine how this threw me for a loop back on my first playthrough. #ShadowbringersSpoilers
