What Eileen’s parents don’t realize is that she is interested in Nakamura…and he in her. the film is not bold enough to go there and the production code wouldn’t have allowed it. Much less threatening to depict soldiers falling for Japanese women…

Webster's mealy-mouthed excuses are even more insulting than Crawford's behavior. #TCMParty #Sayonara

I hate Colonel Crawford and General Webster

Colonel a$$hole is real proud of himself. #TCMParty #Sayonara

Ooh Tea Ceremony! Forgiveness! Overcoming hatred!

The more he talks the more embarrassing it gets... How do you hang out with officers and people who speak more intelligently and all you can come up with is "...you're a good lookin' woman"? #Sayonara #TCMParty

Katsumi's joy at having an opportunity to entertain comes through so clearly. No doubt they've put up with a lot so far. Such a touching moment. #TCMParty #Sayonara

I love it that this wonderful happy couple help get Lloyd even more curious about Japanese culture

yes, exactly. And he had a terrible spinal injury in 1951 which caused him lifelong pain and mobility problems. Presumably impacted his career/professional choices.

Well even if I'm not enjoying Brando's slow southerner, props to him for demanding the Japanese women be played by Japanese women. I'm not sure why they didn't get Japanese men to play Japanese men—but let's focus on his significant win considering the times! #Sayonara #TCMParty

Yep being exposed to to a different culture with different people and customs will make you question your own…..

sounds like he had regrets about being reduced to racist roles. Makes me curious about his autobiography, Reflections: Life in Two Worlds (1980) #TCMParty #Sayonara

It's awful.
I kind of thought that anyone not white in Hollywood would know what it feels like to see someone play another race and wouldn't be able to do the same.
I mean, I'm not trying to make any judgments, I am just genuinely surprised. #Sayonara #TCMParty

I'm trying to figure out his accent, where he's supposed to be from. Is it just "southern racist"?

I agree he does not sound like an Air Force major. But then I've never been in the military.

Oh no Ricardo Montalban...😭😭😭

What did they do his eyes

#TCMParty #Sayonara

Has anyone served in the military with anyone as slow-moving, slow-talking and mush mouthed as Marlon Brando's character in this movie? It's probably 30mins longer than it normally would have been because we'll spend that extra time waiting for him to finish delivering his lines. #Sayonara #TCMParty

This whole cast is excellent. Red Buttons stands out, and Brando Is of course excellent

#Sayonara #TCMParty
This is a serious movie about bigotry and racism and its tragic consequences. Get ready to cry. Multiple hanky warning ⚠️ ⚠️⚠️

( Even with, ironically, Montalban in yellow face)

#Sayonara be prepared for some yellow-on-brown face. In Kabuki makeup.
