A collaboration with Ruben Blades and the Brazilian group, Boca Livre. A nice mix of bossa nova and salsa.

@grandaha.bsky.socialNew episode: Rubén Blades turned a 7-minute salsa single into a Brecht-and-Weill murder ballad. "Pedro Navaja" owes its bones to "Mack the Knife"—a Saturday-night dance record with a body count. How did he smuggle literature onto the dancefloor? Listen now. #Salsa #MusicArchaeology #MusicHistory

@chefeel.bsky.social@grandaha.bsky.socialEveryone files Rubén Blades under salsa and stops there. But listen to the roots: cinematic songcraft, conversational baritones, and loose improvisational rhythm. His real instrument was narrative — he wrote short stories you could dance to. #RubenBlades #Salsa #MusicArchaeology #MusicHistory

@jaseph.bsky.social@grandaha.bsky.socialEveryone remembers the salsa fireworks, but Blades built his records on restraint. That laid-back baritone sells intimacy by holding back — it sounds like someone confiding in you, long after the brass has cooled. #RubenBlades #Salsa #SalsaDura #LatinMusic #MusicArchaeology #MusicHistory
@grandaha.bsky.socialEveryone remembers salsa for its horns. On Buscando América (1984), Rubén Blades threw them out entirely, handing the harmony to synths and Ricardo Marrero's vibraphone. Strip the brass, keep the Afro-Cuban pulse, and it's still salsa.

@grandaha.bsky.socialBlades didn't just make salsa for dancing — he wrote crime fiction set to clave. On "Pedro Navaja," a hood and a streetwalker kill each other in a doorway, and a passing drunk pockets the gun and the cash. Salsa's first true short story.
@kaizengrey.bsky.socialMateo's Gluten Free Medium Gourmet Salsa
One of my favorite salsas. The medium has a nice amount of heat that's actually flavorful.
