The beak profile is wonderful for its job of finding goodies to eat in the mud.

Coming towards the end of #Butterfly season, so it was nice to see this #SmallCopper feeding on #Fleabane at the #RSPB #NewportWetlands a few days ago

A small butterfly feeds on a large yellow flower. The butterfly's forewings are orange, bordered with brown and have black spots. The hindwings are mostly brown with an orange rear border and black spots.

Now then, according to the kindly chap with a much better bird knowledge than I have, stood next to me at RSPB Adwick Washlands, this is a Pectoral Sandpiper, and that there are only 40 of them in the country. Hopefully this is correct! @rspb.bsky.social

A pair of mating dragonflies. The first dragonfly clings to a dry, brown rush stem. It's head is a mixture of blue, yellow, white and black segments with 2 large brown eyes, it's thorax is yellow and black striped. The blue and black segmented abdomen curls up and grasps the back of the head of the second dragonfly. The second dragonfly entirely coloured in yellow and black segments. It's abdomen curls beneath it and is attached to bottom of the first's abdomen
