Y Gaer (Latin: Cicucium) is a, #Roman fort situated near modern-day Brecon in Mid Wales,

For #RomanFortThursday, let's consider #Anderitum. Built around AD 290 & one of nine #SaxonShoreforts, Anderitum was constructed during a period of growing pressure on #Rome’s frontiers, when coastal defences across #Britannia were being strengthened against seaborne threats.

"What’s believed to be a Parade Wall has been uncovered, along with some excellent examples of Roman engineering and some small finds that give us more clues as to how the population of Caerleon lived at that time."

The imposing walls of Burgh Castle Roman Fort in Norfolk (Gariannonum). Built during the late 3rd century, the fort was one of a series of ‘Saxon Shore Forts’ constructed to defend Britain against incursions from Saxon raiders. 📸 My own. #RomanFortThursday #RomanBritain

On display together for the 1st time at Dorset Museum 📷 Sep 2026

As Peaches and Herb famously said:

Reunited, and it feels so good
Reunited cos we understood
There's one perfect fit
And centurion this one is it
