This letter is from a Club member asking to discontinue his membership as he is serving in the Armed Forces and due to depart for the Dardanelles. #NSHD2026

This item, from September 1914, appears to be an appeal to athletes across Newport and the wider county to enlist in the Armed Forces during the War. Athletes were encouraged to enlist together and, as was in the case with Newport Athletic Club, served together. #NSHD2026

Mae'n ymddangos bod yr eitem hon, o fis Medi 1914, yn apêl i athletwyr ar draws Casnewydd a'r sir ehangach i ymrestru yn y Lluoedd Arfog yn ystod y Rhyfel. Anogwyd athletwyr i ymrestru gyda'i gilydd ac, fel yn achos Clwb Athletau Casnewydd, fe fuont yn gwasanaethu gyda'i gilydd. #NSHD2026

The collection includes a list of Club member's who enlisted during the War. Rolls of honour for Club members can also be found in the Annual Reports as well as engraved on the memorial gates at Rodney Parade.

However, from 1895, the name was changed to 'The Newport Athletic Club' and this was due to the number of sports incorporated with the Club such as archery, wrestling, swimming, cross country running and more.
