Geologist Lorence Collins was Fasold’s co-author. He examined a supposed iron fitting from Durupınar, and his analysis identified a natural mineral concretion, not a forged ship component. #NoahsArk #Geology

David Fasold, a supporter of Wyatt. published a book in 1988 that argued for Durupinar as the Ark’s location. 8 years later, he coauthored a paper concluding that it was a natural formation. The same investigator helped make the case for the “Ark” and later campaigned against it. #NoahsArk #Geology

Geophysicist John Baumgardner investigated Durupınar with radar and attempted core drilling in the 1980s. The recent scans are nothing new - they follow decades of efforts to see beneath the formation’s surface. #NoahsArk #Geology

Ron Wyatt, a nurse anesthetist, became one of Durupınar’s best-known advocates. A photograph in the LIFE magazine article in 1960 sparked his interest. He first visited the site in 1977, taking his two teenage sons with him. #NoahsArk #History

William Shea, a physician who later earned a PhD in Near Eastern Studies, proposed a different explanation for Durupınar in 1976: maybe Noah’s Ark had left an impression in mud that later hardened. So, not the Ark, but the Ark’s footprint. #NoahsArk #History

Creationist geologist Clifford Burdick visited Durupınar in 1973 and concluded that it was a natural formation. William Shea’s 1976 article (see next post!) preserves his assessment. #NoahsArk #Geology

Let’s start with Turkish army Captain İlhan Durupınar. He was making maps when he noticed a boat-shaped outline in an aerial photograph in 1959. This geological formation now bears his name. The following year, he would join an expedition to the site. #NoahsArk #History

I’m researching Durupinar, which is back in the news as the supposed remains of Noah’s Ark. It has quite a cast of characters! Throughout today, I’ll introduce some of them—from the captain who spotted it in an aerial photograph to the folks behind Noah’s Ark Scans. #NoahsArk

What if they REALLY found Noah’s Ark?

I’m skeptical, but I’d absolutely love for it to be real. The Durupınar formation.
