Are you interested in writing a book and you don't know where to start? Let me help!
I have openings for new coaching clients and I'd love to help you make your author dreams come true!
Writing a series? A big, epic book? Now is a good time to write a Book/Series Bible.
Here's how!
*taps the mic*
I have two extra openings for edits starting next week. Get some edits done and help me pay for car repairs!
Want a quick way to check if your book makes sense? Check your chapter and scene endings. They should all end with something that ties to your genre.
A question for mysteries, a call to action for adventure books, an interaction between the couple for romance...
If you've queried a publisher or literary agent and they say they want to acquire your book, but that there's a small editing fee or publishing fee... RUN.
That's 100% a scam.
Legitimate literary agents or publishers do not charge the authors anything.
Having rules for a series helps the series feel cohesive. But they aren't grammar rules. It's things like
"Every time this character arrives something breaks."
"The cowardly choice never works."
"The team only wins when they're getting along."
I'm opening up two extra editing slots in October to cover the cost of car repairs. If you need an editor, help with a query, or a writing coach to help you finish the novel you're working on - hire me!
The emotion you end a chapter on impacts not only the genre, but also how your readers feel about the book. Make sure you're ending scenes in the right place so you get the reactions you want.
DO NOT pay someone to be your literary agent (they get a percent of your royalty check) or your publisher (they get a percent of the sales).
If someone is offering to publish your book but asks for money: RUN.
I am going to go read for a client this afternoon. If you have publishing questions, feel free to @ me and ask.
The exceptions to these rules are:
- people hiring ghostwriters
- authors who plan to go Traditional but want an editor before they query
The only authors who pay money are Indie authors who pay for edits, cover art, and possibly formatting. You can look up the rates for editors here:
If you're a traditionally published author with an agent or publisher - YOU PAY NOTHING.
Money flows to you, not away from you.
Readers come into books willing to support anything. Heroes can be killers, thieves, and monsters. Readers will love them all the same.
If you want a reader to believe something is evil you need a character to say that thing is evil.
What does it cost to hire a freelance editor? It depends on the kind of book you need edited and what kind of editing you want done. The Editorial Freelancers Association has a calculator.
Publishers will edit your book for free.
I beg of you, spend 15 minutes searching your historical period before writing anything in history. Pretty please.
Yes, there were computers in the 1980's. They were common well before 2010.
I'm going to start my morning with edits and see where the rest of the day goes.
If you have questions about writing or publishing - @ me!

I'll be honest, a lot of the struggle with writing the first draft of a scene with Big Emotions is just screaming in your own head in a small panic as you try to get coherent words on the page.
Books are hard to write.
Writing books takes longer than some people think. The reason your favorite author is talking about a book they're finishing that doesn't come out until next year is that they are going through edits and setting up promotions.
