@ironmillman.bsky.socialMeet #LeopardusTilcayo — the first newly identified cat species in over a century. The wild cat, a bit smaller than a housecat, lives in Bolivia's cloud forest. Locals call it simply "Tilcayo."
@manofmany.comNew cat just dropped.
Meet Leopardus tilcayo, a spotted cat from Bolivia's Yungas cloud forests that weighs about 1.4kg, less than the average house cat. It is the first new cat species identified in more than a century.

@thelolgic.bsky.socialLeopardus tilcayo, a 3-pound spotted cat from Bolivia, is the first new wild cat species found in over 100 years.
Genome comparisons across 38 Leopardus cats show it split from its relatives 1.4 million years ago, a find that could reshape conservation for small cats.
@peregrinuscreative.bsky.socialDiscovered just in time for humans to cause it to go extinct! I love, and am amazed, that we are still discovering new things at least!
