Buon centesimo compleanno a Opal Lee, la donna che ha portato gli Stati Uniti a riconoscere come festa nazionale il Juneteenth, il 19 giugno, giorno in cui si ricorda la fine della schiavitù.

@blue2k.bsky.socialHe passed in 2022 and last week I stumbled across a book he gave me when I was 7. I had always read the inscription as,
“To Sarah on
June tenth, 1982
Love, daddy.”
But now, I realize it says #Juneteenth and I’m floored.
Apparently San Francisco & my dad were celebrating Juneteenth in the 1980s

@dennissladejr.bsky.socialPS: Just kidding. #Juneteenth is clearly the one they least believe in.
@quicksand-index.bsky.social—the order for years, exploiting remote geography and thin Union presence. Freedmen began marking the date the next year, and the tradition spread as Black Texans migrated. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021, championed for decades by activist Opal Lee. #history #juneteenth
